M. Joyce "Tiss" Thomas, age 74, of Gravois Mills, passed away Monday, August 17, 2009, at her home. She was born August 29, 1934, in Litchfield, Illinois, the daughter of the late Roscoe Henry and Mercedes Margaret Holland Dinwiddie. She started dating Edmond J. Thomas on April 4, 1954, and on November 24, 1956, in St. Louis, Missouri, they were united in marriage. Joyce graduated from Washington University in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse at DePaul Hospital until her retirement. She was a member of the Gravois Mills United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women, was a member of the Morgan County Democratic Club, the Fibromyalgia Support Group, the Gravois Mills Crime Watch, the Gravois Mills Community Betterment Association, was an active member of the Clan Maxwell and Clan MacInnes, was active in the last Dinwiddie family reunion in Sedalia, and was active in the Boy Scouts of America, having earned both the Silver Beaver, the highest award at the council level, and the Spurgeon Award, the highest award at the council level for the exploring program. She is survived by her husband Edmond of 52 years; three sons, John Thomas III and wife Jane Alison of Overland, Missouri, Jim Thomas and wife Donna of Edwardsville, Illinois, and Jeff Thomas of Mexico, Missouri; one daughter, Kathy Coder of Florissant, Missouri; one grandson, Ian Thomas of Edwardsville, Illinois; one brother, Bob Dinwiddie and wife Doris of St. Charles, Missouri; three sisters, Susan Harris of Collinsville, Illinois, Carol Shaw of Denver, Colorado, and Pat Rogers of St. Louis, Missouri; her brother-in-law, Jerry Thomas of DeSoto, Missouri; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 20, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with the Reverend Ellen Hoff officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home. Interment will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 21, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
