    2. Wayne M. Vaughn
    3. Genealogy Alert: Geocities to close this year You may have heard that Geocities will be closing down later this year (2009). There are many genealogy sites on Geocities, and sadly, many of these sites may be lost if the webmasters don't move the sites to a new location. Yahoo is not notifying anyone about this by e-mail and many webmasters have not updated their sites in years, so--more likely than not--are not even aware the pages they have posted will be lost. You or someone you know may have genealogy information posted on a Geocities site. USGenWeb & Rootsweb also have had links to Geocities sites. Please help spread the word so genealogy websites won't be lost-- http://ancestorsearch.blogspot.com/2009/04/my-genealogy-site-is-on-geocities-now_29.html http://ancestorsearch.blogspot.com/2009/05/my-genealogy-site-is-on-geocities-now.html http://ancestorsearch.blogspot.com/2009/05/my-genealogy-site-is-on-geocities-now_05.html

Some of Britton's children were born in that county. The Giles you are showing as a brother to Joseph could not be the same as mine. My Giles was in Pettis County in 1840 buying land and  in 1841 he bought land in Morgan County, MO. and in 1851 he was purchasing land in Arkansas then he came back to Morgan County, MO just before 1860 census.  I am wondering if you, Marsha, and I connect some where in NC. According to research done by Frederic Voelker who wrote about old Bill Williams, Joseph Williams married to Sarah Musick  had a brother named Giles Williams.  In a letter Voelker received regarding Joseph Williams Pension application it states that in 1846 Giles Williams, soldiers's brother, was a residenet of Rutherford Cty NC.  Could this Giles be related to your Britton and Giles??? Joanne Marsha Giles "Jiles" Lee Williams father was Britton Williams b. 1767 Flat Gap, Wise, Virginia d. 1842 Greenfield, Dade, Missouri. He married Elizabeth Bolling in 1784 in NC. She was the daughter of Benjamin I Bolling. Giles and his father Britton came to Missouri in about 1807-1810. Before that they were in Barren County, KY by land records. Giles is listed with Capt. Sarshall Cooper in April 1812 at Fort Kincade serving under him. Britton is listed as being in Cooper County in 1811 at Fort Kincade. Do any of these names ring a bell to you? On the Vaughn's in Morgan County I have found no relationship yet. I do have a branch of Vaughn's off my 4th great grandfather that settled in Miller County in 1830. His name was Obediah Vaughn Jr.. So there may be a connection there to Morgan County, I have not found it yet. Britton Williams had on son born about 1815 (most likely Cooper County) and I have never found out who he is yet. I have found some Noltings in Widner, Knox County, Indiana, that I believe tie into my Noltings in Franklin County Missouri. This is where my g-grandmother Nannie Nolting was born - Franklin County, Mo. Frederick's wife, and Nannie's mother - Mary Elizabeth Steiwig - was born in Texas. (This line has stumped me too.) I'm not sure I have Nolting ancestors in Morgan County, but am approaching my research from all angles. There are many Noltings in Warren County too, that may tie in - they may all be related at some point! Your research sounds awesome - do you have any Noltings in Franklin County MO, or in Indiana? I noticed this while looking through the MO death certificate archives. My gg-grandmother is Mary E Steiwig Nolting (b May 7 18850, d Jan 31 1924), married to Frederick Nolting (1842-1893). Mary is buried in Woodman Cemetery in Leslie, Franklin Co., Mo. I am not sure where Frederick is buried. I was hoping that someone could give me some background history on the Nolting Cemetery, and whether it is still in existence. I would guess that these Noltings are tied to my gg-grandfather's family line. Thanks so much! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He and his family lived in Morgan County, Missouri - from MORGAN COUNTY PRESS October 1945 "Henry Witte, probably the oldest Morgan County citizen the past several years, passed away Saturday evening. Mr. Witte had been a resident of the Pyrmont vicinity the past 92 years. He came here with his parents, Bernard and Gesche (Ehlers) Witte from Hanover, Germany when a small child. The family of eight crossed the ocean in a sailboat, landing at New Orleans. They came up the Mississippi River to Boonville. The trip from Boonville to Pyrmont was made by oxteam and a homemade wagon. The Ehlers, relatives of the Witte family and early settlers at Pyrmont, met the Witte family at Boonville. Mr. Witte married Margaret Schnakenberg who was reared at Cole Camp. She died about 45 years ago. Surviving are two sons and three daughters - Herman and Louis, Mrs. Rudolph Rugen, Emma and Katie, all of the Pyrmont vicinity. I have a copy of a newspaper clipping which should help you with this, colagirl. "Uncle Henry Witte's Ninetieth Birthday Celebrated Birthday celebrations of all ages are not uncommon in the Stover vicinity; however, very few 90th birthdays are celebrated. Uncle Henry Witte, one of four sons of a German pioneer settling in the Pyrmont vicinity some seventy years ago, and the only one of these four sons now living, has lived a life that now at the age of ninety years he enjoys good health and is able to enjoy the association of friends and neighbors. A strong, healthy body and sound mind in old age is one of the best proofs of the right kind of living. Uncle Henry's 90th birthday was Wednesday of last week - March 1st. On that day the following friends, visited him: Mr. and Mrs. Herman Witte and son, Herbert, Mr. and Mrs. Rodolph Rugen and family, and in the evening, Rev. Lindeman, pastor of Trinity Lutheran church." We know that Herman Witte is not one of the four brothers, because he is still living.
