Since most of my Westerman/Stretz families are in Boonville, I had the LDS learning center where I live bring in the microfilm of church records of Cooper CO, with some records from Moniteau and Buchanan counties records. You can't beat church records for accurate dates. In the 1860 census, the only Otten family I have been able to find in Morgan CO is Catherine Otten. Any clue where Henry and Anna Otten, or Claus Otten is in the 1860 census? Julie Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. This church book has birth and baptism dates reversed from most, and 7 August in left column is baptism date. Unfortunately this is the only Otten family event I find in this church's records. Mary age 18 in the 1870 census would be Mary (Gaus) Otten. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Otten, C H, is living in the hosuehold of W E Kruse & Nettie R Kruse with Claus listed as father-in-law. Since Claus died in 1928 in Kansas City, Jackson CO, MO, with W E Kruse as informant, and both have the same address in Kansas City, the Kruse family was evidently living in Kansas City by the time Claus died. The death certificate states Claus was buried in Boonville, so possibly he is buried in Walnut Grove cemetery as his mother Anna and brother John are. Could you please point me in the direction for the information on Augustus Theodore Otten, s/o Claus and Mary Jane Casdorph? Did you find this information from baptism records? I have yet to find Claus in the 1860 federal census. I can place him in every census except that one until his death in 1928. I suspect that August listed in the 1880 census with Claus is his son from his first marriage and the census taker should have stated son instead of step-son. His death certificate appears to spell Claus as Clous and the indexing on the Missouri Birth/Death site spells the name Clons. In the 1920 census, Saline CO, KS, Claus is in the household of W E Kruse, listed as father-in-law. I believe W E Kruse to be the husband of Claus' daughter Nettie. W E Kruse is also the informant on Claus' death certificate. Claus' wife Mary is in the 1910 census, Douglas CO, KS, so she died after the date of that census. Children I know of for Claus would be August (probably with 1st wife), Nettie, Henry J, and I A (probably Albert). 1900 census, wife Mary has had 5 children with 3 children living, so there are 2 children I can! not name. 1850 census, Henry OETERS is in Haw Creek, Norgan CO, MO with wife Anna, son Clarrs age 16 and son Henry age 12. First in Benton CO, MO, then in Morgan CO, MO. Johan married my great grand aunt Johannah Westermann in Cooper CO in 1849. They lived in Boonville. Henry died about 1872, with Anna then living with Johan and Johannah in Boonville until her death in 1890. Claus appears to have married twice, uncertain of name of first wife, second wife was Mary Gaus with marriage in 1866. Johan died in Boonville 1895, Johannah had died in 1891. Obit for Johan states he married twice, the children listed are from his marriage to Johannah. No clue as to the second wife, who she was and when she died. Johan, Johannah, and Anna Otten all buried in Walnut Grove cemetery in Boonville. Would like to find out if Dietrick andn Johan Heinrich stayed in Morgan CO and if they have living descendants in that county. Any help would be greatly ! appreciated.
