Otherwise, you'd probably need to find probate records or a Bible -- and you'd pretty much need to know his parents before you could find those records. How do you know that your James King was born in Montgomery City? I'm just curious about what record you have for that. I hope some of the following information is useful. There are only two James Kings indexed in Montgomery County, MO, censuses through 1930. One of them was the son of John P. and Susan King. He was an infant of 6 months on census day, 1 Jun 1860, so he was b. abt Dec 1859. The other James King was several years younger, age 2, "colored," in 1870 and age 16, "black," in 1880. Neither is found in Montgomery County censuses after 1880. This web page has some marriage info: <http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=dwatt-4&id=I7569> Michel Ann (Mittie) ATTERBERRY b. 6 Mar 1868 m. James King, 17 Jan 1892, Montgomery County, MO The 1900 census for Hannibal, MO, says that James King was 35, b. May 1865, MO, both parents b. Unknown. Census day was 1 June 1900. In 1910, he was James E. King, 44. Census day was 15 Apr 1910. Therefore, he's not one of the James Kings found on Montgomery County censuses. In 1900, his wife, Annie J. King, was 32, b. Mar 1868, MO, mother of 1, 1 living. They had been married 9 years. Son, Herman C. King, was b. June 1894, MO. On the 1910 census, she's Annie King, 36, mother of 4, 4 living. Married 17 years.Crandall, 16, son, and Margaretta, 3, daughter; boarders Albert King, 24, and Lester King, 22. In 1920 in Hannibal, he's James King, 55, father b. US, mother b. KY; she is Mitchell A. King, 53; their dau, Margaret, 12, is with them. 1930 Hannibal, James King, 65, 25 at first marriage, both parents b. MO; Annie, 62, 23 at first marriage. --> Those two young men named King living with James and Annie in 1910 are interesting. I'd guess they were related to James King, possibly his younger brothers or nephews. James King and Miss Atterberry were m. in Montgomery County in 1892, and it would be nice to find some of his family still there on the 1900 census, since we can't find him in Montgomery County on any census. 1900 MO-Montgomery, Prairie Twp, Danville, ED 68, p. 11A. King, William, head, 63, b. Mar 1837, MO, married 16 years, father b. KY, mother b. SC. King, Sarah, wife, 37, b. Jan 1863, MO, married 16 years, mother of 2, 2 living. King, Albert, son, 13, b. Dec 1886, MO. King, Leslie, son, 11, b. Sep 1888, MO. --> I think these boys were living with James and Annie in Hannibal in 1910. This William King was old enough to have been James's father, and this could have been a second marriage with a much younger wife. I didn't find any member of this household on the 1910 census in Montgomery County. But I did find these entries in the Missouri Newspaper Death Index: Mrs. Wm King (no age given) d. 13 Oct 1903 Montgomery City Standard William King Abt 65 d. 8 Sept 1905 Montgomery City Standard I also found Crandall King's obit in the Missouri Newspaper Death Index: Crandall King Abt 17 d. 30 May 1912 obit pub 7 Jun 1912 Montgomery City Standard --> Since he was so young and didn't live in Montgomery County but did have relatives there, his obituary might say who his grandparents were or name some other family relationships, such as aunts or uncles.
