Their daughter, Mathilda married Charles J Burger and moved to Moberly, MO around 1900. At the time of Mathilda's death in 1947, two brothers, Leo and Fred Menz were still alive and living in Wellsville. Any help locating descendants of Conrad and Gertrude Menz would be greatly appreciated

Ive been searching for information on Lydia Ellis who reportedly married James (B) Smith in Montgomery Co in 1828. Lydia had a brother named Moses. Lydia and James Smith had a daughter Elizabeth Smith who married Thomas Patton. This is a long shot but I wonder if we cal relate any of this information. Anyone who has information or who could look for marriage records. The Smiths moved west to DeKalb County Missouri around 1860 and I do not find records beyond that. Lydia also had a brother Isaac and also moved west. I have some record on him. Please respond. Ive reached the end of my rope on this family. Email Brown3819@sbcglobal.net

Is the Missouri Newspaper Death Index available for me to use? James King was born in Montgomery county. Lived after 1900 in Marion county. I am trying to find proof that his father was John P KING of Montgomery County MO. I am hoping the newspaper article on James' son, Crandal, death will mention his grandparents. It was published in the 7 Jun 1912 Montgomery City Standard newspaper. (Thank you for this info) Do you know how I might contact this newspaper for the obituary? Most of John P's children lived and died in Montgomery CO MO so I would be interested in looking them up in the Newspaper Death Index for obituaries also. Also the Albert and Leslie King living with James King in 1910 were the sons of William King James' brother. That is one tie I have with James to John P King's family.
Chet- I don't know if your Charlie King was our Charlie King, but it sure is a good story! Thanks! Do you know where in Montgomery Buchanans lived? Linda Kanevsky.
Dear BB, Thank you very much. That is more than I had for James Turner and his family. The Stone family is buried in Wellsville, too. Maybe she is with them. Some of her children left the area of Montgomery County and I guess she could have gone with one of them, but she seemed to be close to James and Virginia Turner Stone. I really appreciate your help. Judy Arthur
Does anyone have a record of Ann Turner Winder. She was b. in KY in about 1803 and died in either Montgomery or Audrain County after 1880. In the 1880 census, she was listed as living with her daughter, Virginia Turner Stone/Madison Harrison Stone. It was also noted that she was visiting her son who was James M. Turner who died in the area after 23 July 1882. His wife was Narcissa M. Williams who died on 23 July 1882 in Wellsville, Montgomery County. Ann Turner Winder was a widow of Samuel Winder and they had three children. He died before she came to Montgomery County. Her first marriage was to William Turner and they had four children. Most of her children were in the area of Montgomery County, Missouri after 1850. I am trying to find out when she died and if there might an obit for her. I have not been able to find one, but I am not in Missouri. Thank you, Judy Arthur

I thought that the King family might be interested in the following excerpts from my aunt's meniors: Caution to the Wind - Unfinished Memoirs by Elender Buchanan Frisbie, Mexico, MO. She copy righted it in 1984, but did not have it printed (in a limited number) until 2005. It covers the family history of Richard Morrison Buchanan of Montgomery County and two generations of this descendants from about 1885 to the late 1940s. About 1885: "A few months later their home [Richard M. and Liza Buchanan] was destroyed by fire, and they were forced to move in with a neighbor, the Bill King family. One day Baby John became ill with pneumonia. Charlie King went to Montgomery City to get the doctor, who recommended giving the baby a small amount of whiskey. Charlie bought a half-pint and started on the six-mile trip home. It was a cold, damp and miserable day, and Charlie couldn't get his mind off that bottle in his pocket. After all, he reasoned, the baby would need only a small amount. Tired and cold, and with a taste for the fiery liquid to warm him, he yielded to temptation, drank most of the whiskey and filled the bottle with water from a creek he had to cross. The baby did get well in spite of the diluted toddy." About 1890: "One day John A. mixed clay and chicken manure together, patted it into the shape of a plug of tobacco and let it dry. When it was ready he offered some to Charlie King (an old man by now) to chew. After chewing it for a few minutes, Charlie said, "This here turbaccer tastes like chicken shit." John A. assured him it was good stuff and talked him into trying some more. Finally the old man realized it was not 'turbaccer.'" Chet Buchanan
