His Certificate of Death Registration from Vigo County, IN, states that he died 18 Nov 1834 at St Anthony Hospital, Terre Haute, from lye poisoning/suicide, was married to Ada at the time, final disposition is at Bethesda Cemetery, funeral home was F M Rogerson. It also states that his father's name was James. I also found a map of Bethesda Cemetery that shows the location of James' grave.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ZKB.2ACE/484.1 Message Board Post: In response to a posting I came across on the Internet ... James Riley Davidson married Minnie Mae Krigbaum of Ralls County, Missouri (probably his 2nd marriage and her 1st). James and Minnie had three children, Merle Bernard (my grandfather), William Pearl and Lester Glen. James' and Minnie's marriage ended (circumstances unknown to me). Minnie remarried twice afterwards (See and Smith) and had several children by them. Next, James Riley Davidson married Ada Bell Nichols (aka "Adah" and "Adahella"), who was also living in Ralls County, Missouri at the time. Ada was the daughter of Peter and Ida Nichols (see 1900 census). James and Adah moved to Terre Haute and had several children, including Dean Luther, Jenny Lee, Helen Farris, Eugene Lloyd, Harvey Ellsworth, and George. The 1930 census has them all living together in Terre Haute. Adah died in 1962 and is buried in Bethesda Cemetery in Terre Haute. My grandfather, Merle, lived in my father's home with us until 1970 when he died. I was age 10. I remember that Grandpa (Merle) occasionaly spoke of his brothers (especially Dean, Pearl and Glen). He rarely spoke of his father James, except that he told us that he (Merle) found him (James) dead at his home in Terre Haute. The circumstances surrounding James' death are not clear. Some have suggested suicide (drinking lye), but that has not been substantiated and it may or may not be true.

I am curious to know how you proved this? It is logical that she would be there in 1850 with a son if he died in 1847, but he died at ca age 57, so I would be surprised that at age 40 (1830) they would be living with a son unless you have lucked into some letters or something or they were invalids. Again, just curious, had to ask. King, I am looking up my materials from VA to see what specific things I have on King and Stroup in Wythe Co. There was more than one King family there at the time. It figures. To help with the John King confusion in Montgomery, I found paragraphs in Pioreer Families of Missouri, by Bryan and Rose, on two different King families there. See the chapter on Montgomery County, page 275, of which I have a bound copy. You may know that a lot of the factual material in this publication wasn't accurate. Still, it is a good jumping off place as long as you check other sources. The first paragraph is the John P.King/ Susan Stephenson line. The second paragraph on KING, lists one ISAAC KING of South Carolina. He married Lydia Sitton and settled in Tennessee. They had the following children: Joshua, Abraham, Sarah, and Joseph. The first three children settled in Lincoln Co., MO in 1817. Joseph settled in Montgomery in 1823. His wife is listed as Elizabeth Yates. They had sons Conrad, Isaac, Charles, and JOHN, a daughter Sarah, and an unnamed child. (The paragraph said six children, but only listed five.) The father Joseph was a Justice of the Peace and a Captain of the Militia, according to the story. He owned a "horse mill" that was run by his wife. Interesting. Any little bit can help open up a line. You never know. I will get back to you both on the Stroup line, but Barbara's parents were Johann Peter Stroup or Straub and Magdalena Wenrich. Sorry, I don't have McKinney or Spires in my line. Linda

I was looking at census records today. in 1920 3rd ward Belleville, Republic Kansas my Thomas King was at household 62/64 with his family. In household 65/67 lived Pearl SPISER. Spires was difficult to read and when I saw the name Spires in your e-mail I thought it might be Spires instead of Spiser. I will double check. Pearl was 30 a widow with 3 children. Can't hurt to check.
