Marriage Book 6, page or record number 366 lists marriage of Louis E. Gill to Mattie Wald as 14 Jul 1906 in Montogmery. Mattie was my grandmother's aunt and I met her when I was a young child. I have a couple of letters she wrote about family history. Interesting stories, but short on factual evidence. I believe she died in 1958 and is buried in Seattle, where she lived with Presley and Frank. Linda Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Gill (b. 1 Jan 1878) said that she was 28 at first marriage, so they m. in 1906. (Her obit on the page above says they m. in 1927.) Their first son was b. 1907. Louis E. Gill was enumerated as divorced in 1920 and 1930. I haven't been able to find Mattie and the boys in 1920; in 1930, Mattie was in Seattle with her two sons, L. Presley, 23, and Francis W., 18, and was enumerated as a widow. (The 1930 census also says that Louis E. was 24 at first marriage, which would have been abt 1893, before his marriage to Mattie Wald.) --> I was acquainted with the younger L. Presley Gill (1907-1987) in Seattle in 1972-73. He was retired from practice by then but was a prominent labor lawyer. There's a brief bio, with the wrong birth year, here: http://www.daylightmasons.org/seattle_masonic_lodge_history.html > in grave 10 Josephine GILL (no stone:was in the Fulton > Asylum in October 1892) According to the Missouri Newspaper Death Index, she was b. 11 Dec 1841 and d. 8 Dec 1908. They had 5 children, among them twins - Eugenia Eulalia and Eugene Lacount/Marlot (sources vary). Eugenia and her twin brother traveled west from Wayne CY, IL to Spirit Mound, SD. to teach Indians, probably after 1870. They married out there, raised children, and are buried in the area. That would be Louise Schwenker that passed away 24 Aug 1897. George then married a Mary Rust, abt 1899,a widow with four children, Albert, Sophia, Lizzie and Edward. George and Louise's children as we have it so far, were, John E., Louis, Henry, Edwin, Albert, George, William, Herman, Fred and Charles. John E(Maude), Louis(Alvina) and George eventually ended up in Alberta, Canada. The remainder of the boys lived their lives in Missouri, from the info we have so far.I believe that the family may have moved to Missouri with relatives of Louise's, as it appears the surname Schwenker is still in the Wellsville, Missouri area. We have absolutely no information on Mary Rust and/or her children, neither prior to her marriage to George nor after his death. Any information is greatly appreciated, we would love to hear from anyone researching these families. Thank you again for your post.
