1. [MOMONROE] LOONEY family
2. The "1884 History of Monroe and Shelby Counties" is not 100% accurate, by the editor's own admission. For instance, Chapter 17, the Ecclestical History of Monroe County http://www.rootsweb.com/~momonroe/history/chapter17.htm lists the founders of the First Baptist Church in Paris. That list shows the surname SUNEY for three of the members. In May, 1952, Elder Key wrote an expanded history of this church and their split in 1840 to form Cedar Grove Baptist Church. He spelled the name LUNEY. Neither are apparently correct. According to property records, John and Benjamin LOONEY, members of the first church, are some of the first settlers of Jackson Township, as was an Absalom LOONEY. I don't find the name LOONEY (or the variants) in any of the 1884 History lists, and there were no LOONEY's in Monroe County in the 1850 Census. Maybe they only had daughters? I do remember seeing a query to the Monroe County board about LOONEY, and it's a name I recognize from my Kentucky research. My primary families are not....yet....directly connected to LOONEY, so I know nothing else about them. Nancy Stone in Paris
