John Lear "John Thomas Lear, 82, died suddenly at this home, 418 South Rollins Street, in Centralia at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 11th. He had recently undergone an operation, but was improving from this at the time he was stricken with a coronary. The son of Marvin and Eudora Maston Lear, he was born near Monroe City, Mo., May 2, 1876. His first wife, the former Mattie B. Davenport preceded him in death. On February 29, 1945, he was married to Mrs. Dewey Powell, who survives him. Other survivors are three sons of his first marriage, Harry Lear, Centralia; Lucian C. Lear, Madisonville, Texas, and Robert L. Lear, Los Angeles, Cal.; two brothers, W.A. Lear and E.S. Lear, Moberly; a sister, Mrs. Lena Belle Barker, Holliday. Four step sons, J.D. Powell, Centralia, Raymond Powell, Boonville, Russell Powell, Flat River, Mass., and Donald Powell, with army intelligence stationed in Germany; and one step-daughter, Mrs. Gene Ball, Little Rock, Ark. Mr. and Mrs. Lear had been residents of Centralia for 14 yrs. He was an interior decorator. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Centralia and was a former member of the Modern Woodmen Lodge."
