My information is as follows: J. Martin and his wife Elizabeth moved from somewhere in VA (they are both said to have been born there) probably late in 1838. They already had a son named David born in VA in 1837 or so. They went on to have Gabriel (born 1839), Jacob Mackey (Jan 1st, 1841) and Susan J. (born before 1846). Jacob's death certificate lists Madison as his place of birth. It appears that J. died and Elizabeth remarried (December 1846) to a man by the name of William Pearce, who already had a large family. They are listed in the 1850 census in Monroe Co. as a mixed family (both Martin and Pearce) but in 1860, everyone was listed as Pearce in the census. Jacob went on to take back his father's name and marry in Illinois in 1865. Any information on this family would be helpful. I am most specifically trying to find out what "J." stands for, as well as Elizabeth Martin Pearce's maiden name. Thanks!! Therese
