I asked my mother who had to be sewn up at McMurray Hospital when she was much younger. Her brother and sister were both born in the hospital. The front of our house (now) faces the rear of the old hospital that is now just a large house. The whole top floor of the big house was used for the hospital. Mother could not remember the old doctor's first name. She said that his wife worked with him and also his wife's sister worked in the hospital. As far as she could remember the doctor and his wife did not have any children. MBranham

In my G-Gran's Susie (2nd child)? it stated that her parents were John Albert and Amanda Black McMurry.. I found the different spelling in the State Archives of Mo. with the birth of John and Manda's 3rd child (1884) parents listed as John A. McMurray and Manda J. (Black) McMurray, Howard Co. Susan's first child (Arthur Kincannon) was born in Sturgeon, Mo.....His first child (my mother) was born in Paris, Mo. I guess I will veer and check out the McMurry's in Blount, Tn........there was a Census that had the two families of Black/ McMurry's. Thanks for your info from Paris....appreciate it. Sandy

McMurry, M. D. 1869 - 1950; Agnes A. McMurry 1869 - 1949. (found at web site www.paris.org) There is a street named McMurry in Paris, MO. I was told it was named for Dr. McMurry. The hospital was located at 201 Birket Street. My mother's brother had appendicitis at age 10. He was taken from his home near Stoutsville, MO by train to Paris to the McMurry Hospital where surgery was preformed. His appendix had already ruptured and he died of peritonitis on March 31, 1926. It was in the days before penicillin. Notice the difference in spellings.

So by the time I was five he would have been 88 years old and she would have been 81. However, there might be a clue as to another name to resarch. I went to school with a David Irwin. His mother was Grace Irwin, whose maiden name was Wilson. She was the daughter of Carey Wilson. I never heard David's father's name, however David could have been a grandson of the Irwins you are looking for. This was the only Irwin I have heard about in the Paris area. Actually, I think that the census takers called it "Paris City" to distinguish that census data taken within the city limits, from out in the surrounding countryside. Actually, Paris is a small town, population remaining about the same throughout my lifetime. it is about 1,486 and has hovered about the 1400 mark since the 1940's. You might be able to find records of who Grace Wilson married, or find David's father's name through birth records, or school re! cords. He would have been born about 1937, give or take a year or two. I'm sure someone subscribed to this list can probably give you further clues.

It was snowing that April 15, when he traveled out to our farm for the delivery. I know he was around for a few years after that. I have never heard a first name for him, either. It was always Doctor McMurray or Doc. I know that somewhere there is a photo of him in a buggy, pulled by a horse, because I have seen it. It might be in the Paris Public library. I am not aware of a hospital as such, and suspect that it was his residence and simply served as a hospital for short term care, when needed.
I don't know if this will be of any help or not, but the Embree 's I know of today (within the past couple of decades or so.) live out south of Madison. If you ask at the Madison postoffice (remember we are talking small towns here) they may be able to provide some help. Mike Stockton former Hollidayite.
Searching for the date of death and burial place of Rosey Ann {McKamey} Smith, died after 1880. She was born abt 1816 in Kentucky, hopefully her tombstone will also tell her birthdate. . I don't believe she is buried beside her husband James Harvey Smith in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Paris, Monroe Co., MO. Thank You. Judy Smith/Colorado

I am interested in the listings of the people: McMurray, Marrie---M-60-Mo-Ky-Ky and his wife Agnes-F-61-Mo-Germany-Germany married 34 years. This is what his name is listed under for the 1930 Census.(I can not find them listed before or after this time-I believe because of the name transcribed) I would appreciate a lookup in the 1930 phone book for this area to see what the actual name of the Dr./Phycian was. My mother was born in Paris, Mo and I think this is a relative from her father's/mother's side--Black/McMurray. Her father's/father side was Kincannon/Graves which I also show in that area. Thank you for your time ---it is appreciated.
