Now I understand why there is a Siegenthaler obituary tucked away in the old family Bible. It was a surname I had never heard before. And again, a census that says he was born in Iowa! My other source must be wrong. To find him with his parents (hopefully), I'm going to have to order the 1870 and hope they are in Moniteau County. Thank you ever so much for all your help! Debra, Save your money on the 1870 census for MO. I have it on CD-ROM. My personal index for Moniteau Co does not include Marshall and my 1870 CD-ROM index for the entire state of Missouri does Not list a Marshall Nelson anywhere in the state. There are lots of Nelsons in Moniteau Co but none that appear to fit. I will work up a list of Nelson families and either post it here or send it privately. Perhaps you would have better luck checking the Iowa census. Regards, Jerry
