Surnames: Fischer, Walterscheidt, Swillum, Eckerle, Yoest, Dick, Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XKB.2ACE/685 Message Board Post: Stephen Fischer, a well known and highly respected citizen of Moniteau County, died at his residence on Versailles Ave- nue, in this city (California), Wednesday morning, May 18th, 1904, from a complication of diseases, aged about 78 years. Mr. Fischer was born in Rhineland, Germany, and came to America when about twenty years of age settling in Cooper county where he soon afterwards was married to Miss Walterscheidt. After a short residence in Cooper, the couple moved to Moniteau County to what is known as the Broyle's farm, on the Boonville road-----. About sixteen years after their marriage, his first wife died, and five years later he married Mrs. Sophie Swillum, who survives him,--- To this first union, nine children were born, and of these six are living, as follows; Mrs. Christ Dick, of Cotton; Mrs. Frank Eckerle and Mrs. Jos. Yoest, of California; Miss Lizzie Fischer, of Kirkwood; John Fischer, of this city and James Fischer, of Virginia City, Nevada. To his second union, one son---- Stephen Fischer, who resides in this city, was born. From thier first location the family moved to a place east of town, and eight or nine years ago to California, where he had since resided. Mr. Fischer was an earnest member of the Catholic church, and ther funeral services will be held at that church this (Friday) morning, at ten o'clock, and interment will be in the cemetery close by.
