Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XKB.2ACE/769 Message Board Post: Passing of a Pioneer: In the death of Peter Joseph Koechner which occured at the home of his daughter,Mrs.Frank Schreck,near this city(Tipton,Mo.) at 11 O'clock Saturday morning Aug.9,1913 following a stroke of paralysis he sufered earlier that morning.Tipton loses one of her pioneer citizens,an honorable upright man,who began his career in this midst way back in the pioneer days - in the days of ox teams and river transportation.He was born in Germany,came with his parents to this country in a sail ship from Ann Arber Belguim making the trip to New Orleans in 49 days.From that point they took passage on a steamboat landing in Boonville,Mo. on May 15,1849 and from that date his life was spent in the vacinity of Tipton.He built the first home on Tipton's town site.On Jan.6,1854 Mr.Koechner was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Weber,who with one son,Peter Koechner and a daughter Mrs.Frank Schreck,a number of grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren,three brothers,Adolph & H! .J.Koechner of Tipton and John Koechner of LaCross,Wis.and 2 sisters,Mrs.Elizabeth Schmidt & Mrs.P.W.Klien of Tipton survives.
