Payne, 84, Russellville, died March 23, 1999, at St. Mary's Health Center. He was born Sept. 8, 1914, near Russellville, a son of Luther and Desdia Maye Miller Payne. He was married August 1?, 1936, in Olean to Laverne Althoff, who survives at the home. He attended Zion School, near Russellville. He was a dairy cattleman for may years and worked as a custodian for the Cole County R-1 school district for 14 years, retiring in 1979. He then drove a school bus for the district. A lifelong resident of Russellville, he was a member of Enon Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent. He was a trustee of the Baptist Home in Irontown from 1976-1983. He was a mem- ber of the German Mutual Insurance Board and was on the Enloe Cemetery Board, serving as president for many years. Survivors include one son, Billy Don Payne, Russell- ville; one daughter, Lawanda Proctor, Russellville; one sister, Ruth A. Hahn, Eldon; four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Enon Baptist Church. The Rev. Randy Trumbo and Rev. Ivan Dameron will offficiate. Burial will be in Enloe Cemetery.
