Joy, I think it took something like 5 years before they could become naturalized. He could have become a citizen sooner if he was in the Civil War fighting for the Union. Kathy Need information on how to find registered voters in Moniteau county, Linn Township, Missouri. I know my gg grandfather was listed as a registered voter in the paper "The Loyal Missourian" dated 18 Oct. 1866... but I need to find out when he was first registered to vote. Hopefully, that will tell me the exact year he came to this country. Thanks, Joy in California (the state)
I forgot to mention that my gg grandfather came to the US in about 1837. He lived in Cincinnati until about 1850 and then left for Jamestown, MOniteau county, Missouri in 1857. I am hoping that when he was mentioned in a newspaper that he was registered to vote, that perhaps he was naturalized in Missouri. That is why I need info to find out how to get info on when he was first registered to vote in Missouri. Any help out there? Thanks, Joy
