Hey Everyone: Thanks to the transcription efforts of Freda Acuff -- the Boone Co slave schedules are finally online {I've been the hold up -- she transcribed them months ago.} Thanks very much Freda!! facuff@mail.win.org You will find a number of slave schedules and other related data on my website: http://www.missouri-slave-data.org/slaveinfo.html If you have sent me a link to a slave schedule and I haven't added it.. or you know of one that should be added.. please let me know. If there's a dead link on my page.. BUG ME! I get lots of email.. and I get busy, overwhelmed and distracted because besides having 3 little ones...I am a community activist and we've been busy bugging the hell out of City Hall these days!! Anyway -- the links need to be cleaned up a bit and beautified... converting from Word to Html takes a little patience -- the dog gon' columns are a pain the rear end to get lined up evenly. So in the next couple of days I'll add some color etc. to the pages and work on getting the numbers to line up. If any of you are faster at applying rows and columns and wanna take a turn at upgrading the pages-- please feel free. If you have a link to a will, obit, probate record etc., let me know so can hook them up accordingly. If you have a hard copy of wills, probate etc., for anyone noted on the slave schedules, you can email, fax or mail me data... I'll be happy to scan it. If you can scan yourself... go for it. A .jpg file works just fine for me. Now.. some of you will recognize that some of the surnames are spelled incorrectly... please help me out by letting me know.. or sending me any slave related data that you may have for the surnames noted. Here's why knowing the families and slave schedules work for African American research. For example, I recently have collected some documentation on the Hutchinson, Hickman and Johnston families -- and discovered that Eli Bass married into the Hickman family. Eli's [largest slave owner in Boone Co] son William married Irene Hickman -- cousin to the Margaret Hutchinson who married Nathaniel Leonard at Ravenswood. For me... I need to make all the familial connections I can. By the way -- Irene Hickman's father was William Hickman -- son of David Hickman and Clara McClanahan. William Hickman's sister Margaret "Peggy" Hickman married William Hutchinson; their daughter Margaret Hutchinson first married William H. Johnston and second Nathaniel Leonard who founded Ravenswood. When Mr. Johnston died; most of his slaves went to Margaret's 2nd husband Nathaniel Leonard..those folks were my ancestors. Margaret Hutchinson Johnston Leonard's brother James Hutchinson married Martha V. Tutt -- the other line who owned my ancestors. Some of the folks in this line of my family changed their surname to MILES. Some still took the TUTT surname. Another tickler: William H. Johnston's [Margaret's 1st husband] sister Eliza Keller Johnston married Capt. David McClanahan Hickman -- brother to William Hickman and Margaret Hickman Hutchinson... above. hahahah. Crazy isn't it... but it works.I've tracked ties in these families in Cooper, Boone, Howard, Callaway and Morgan Counties... and PITTSBURG, PA. Isn't that something??? If anyone has already transcribed or is interested in transcribing the 1840 and/or 1850 slave schedules for Boone Co., please let me know. I have 1850 Cooper in hard copy from --but have been unable to get to it. Same goes for 1860 Moniteau and Morgan. I would be really happy to get volunteers to transcribe Howard Co slaves and Callaway County slave schedules. Here's what's up now... sorry for the crooked numbers.. but I'm getting a headache from messin' with it. Hello Everyone, I am new to Moniteau Co research, and the fact that I am here is quite a surprise to myself and my cousins. I am interested in Williams and Murrell families, and their intertwining relationships with Jobes, Henrys, and Sailings. A Civil War pension application for one Seaburn Copeland revealed that his wife Matilda Jane WILLIAMS was born in California Missouri. She was the daughter of Thomas L. Williams and Franky MURRELL, who also had children Permelia (m. Benj. J.J. MARSH, my line), Mary, Amanda Belle (md. Henry Lawson Guffey), Ira (see below), and William. Thomas and Franky are found in the 1840 Cocke Co TN census, where I think they stayed until her likely father Wm died in the early 1840s. I believe she was probably born there around Cosby, but he could have been part of the Jones Creek, Sevier Co TN Williams. Thomas L. bought land in Cole/Moniteau in 1844 (per purchase record at Natl Archives), but by late 1840s had already moved from Moniteau with Joseph HENRY and Anderson HENRY, and maybe others to TX, they eventually settled in Benton Co AR in 1853 or so. Thomas moved to Dade Co MO ca 1865. My main interest is if anyone knows any information on the families found in the 1850 Moniteau Census of Ira Williams age 28, with wife Lydia Jobe and William Murrell, age 45, with wife Mary at households 515 & 516. I think that Ira is a brother of Thomas L. and Wm Murrell a sister of his wife Franky. Living close by according to the census are many Jobes, Sailings, as well as Diedrick Yows (one of whom appears close by in Benton Co AR, son of the one in Moniteau I am thinking). Williams close by are #484 Perry (Commander Perry I assume), #485 James, with Wm Williams,#527 Eli 29,and #520 Joseph 38, I know that Lydia, Ira, and Wm & Mary MURRELL are buried at Old Salem Cemetery. MOST PARTICULARLY .. I am interested in any more information on the relationships among the following folks, and anything about the actual contents of the deeds, found in Deed Book D (1853-55), pp. 94-101. On those pages, according to the microfilm index which has no more specific information, the following individuals all granted something to C. P. Williams, whom I assume to be Commodore Perry Williams -- Charles ROSS (p. 94), Samuel BIRD (p. 95), Joseph HENRY (p. 96), John WILLIAMS (p. 97), Thomas L. WILLIAMS (p. 98), Ira WILLIAMS (p. 99), Susan WILLIAMS (p. 100), James WILLIAMS (p. 100), William WILLIAMS (p. 101). Does anyone have (a) access to the deed books themselves who might do a lookup; or (2) reference to Moniteau or Cole Co Will, Estate Settlement Books (assuming such still exist), that might show some or all of the above as heirs, relatives of a certain individual??? Since at least Joseph HENRY and Thomas L. WILLIAMS had already left Moniteau, I am assuming they had powers of attorney -- or they returned from Texas briefly and moved to Benton Co AR. Because both Cocke and Sevier Cos are burned counties, this is as close as I can get Thomas L. with a group of other Williams. Further on the Williams and the JOBES, I am curious if any of you have researched the possible siblings or additional children of James WILLIAMS and Susannah WEBB of Sevier Co TN, who had at least two daughters who married Jobes (Bartholomew and Elisha), according to information on the internet. Also any other Williams/Jobe relationships in TN. The relationships between the Williams and the Henrys in Sevier/Cocke are also extensive, with alot of unplaced spouses. Finally an FYI note on the SALLINGS, of particular interest to me and how Thomas L. Williams & wife, ended up in Dade Co MO. Several Sallings (Henry, John, Joseph & Sterling) purchased land in Dade Co Mo ca 1844, when the certificates were granted. However, they appear to have moved on, as I don't find any in the 1850 Dade Co census. Regarding the Thomas Williams, whose will is at the county website. I have reason to believe he might also be related to my folks, but they look like a separate branch if they are. Finally, was part of Moniteau Co, ever in Morgan Co prior to creation of Moniteau. Some of the land patent records lead me to believe it was. If so, which part (township, range, etc.). I'm thinking maybe I need to look at Morgan Co also. Any help much appreciated, including similar migration patterns....I have more information, but it is just collections of data. I live in Alexandria VA, and have exhausted all the online and library, archives, DAR (deed book index microfilm...only Moniteau roll) resources available here. Footnote...Separately (maybe) I am also VERY interested in Moses and Anne CHAMBERS, as I think my Elizabeth Chambers who marries Jacob FORTNER, in 1818 in Greene Co TN, is somehow related to them, and I can't confirm her parents. (FYI, their daughter ends up in Dade Co too). Best Regards, Janet (Baugh) Hunter
Hi Everyone, Thought you might have an interest in this information. It is being posted to the maillist for Bob Doerr, the author shown below. MISSOURI STATE GENEALOGICAL ASSOCIATION Why Join MoSGA? Individuals involved in genealogy must utilize the resources available in order to enhance their research endeavors. If you have ancestors who participated in the history of Missouri, membership in the Missouri State Genealogical Association (MoSGA) will be of benefit. As the representative of the State Society of Missouri, the Board of Directors of MoSGA strives to offer the highest quality of education, guidance and services to our members. Examples follow: CEMETERY BILL: MoSGA actively promoted the state law passed in 1987 for the protection of unincorporated and uncared-for cemeteries. Board members testified at Committee hearings and will continue to support legislation on subjects of historical and genealogical significance. CEMETERY PROJECT: This is an on-going project. The Board has made the commitment to compile a list of ALL cemeteries in Missouri, showing name of cemetery, its location, and directions to reach it. CONFERENCES: MoSGA sponsors an annual two-day conference, usually in central Missouri. Conference sessions offer research techniques, methodology and sources, plus guidance for genealogical society management. LOCAL RECORDS PRESERVATION: A program has been developed by the Office of the Secretary of State for identifying the holdings of county officials and determining methods of preserving those records used by historical and genealogical researchers. MoSGA initiated support for this program by conducting hands-on workshops for records preservation; cooperating with the task force that conducted the program survey; seeking organizations to accept records and keep them open for public access, supplying assistance and advice in completing the first phase. FEDERATION OF GENEALOGICAL SOCIETIES: As a member, MoSGA supports the mission of the Federation, which offers information and guidance on the concerns of historians and genealogists nationally. MoSGA's delegate represents the Association at the Federation's annual meeting and is eligible to vote and hold office in the Federation. FOUR-GENERATION CHARTS: MoSGA members are encouraged to submit a four-generation chart. As accumulated, these charts are published in 200-page books and made available for purchase at minimal cost. This series of books offers a valuable source of surnames. INTERLIBRARY LOAN PROGRAM: MoSGA acquires books by two means. Donated books are reviewed in MoSGA's quarterly. In consultation with the Mid-Continent Library, MoSGA also purchases many books. However acquired, books are placed in the Mid-Continent Library, North Independence Branch, in Independence, Mo. Through the interlibrary loan program, the books are available to the public at all public, college and university libraries in Missouri, and these libraries receive copies of the printed catalog (entitled Genealogy from the Heartland) of the collection. The catalog is also on line at www.mcpl.lib.mo.us/ge/heartland and book loans can be ordered from <ill@mcpl.lib.mo.us>. JOURNAL: MoSGA's official permanent-literature publication is the Missouri State Genealogical Association Journal, a 64-page quarterly that contains information from all areas of the State, articles of many kinds, including, but by no means limited to, Bible and church records, historical articles, educational articles, cemetery records, county records, and newspaper extracts. The Journal is indexed in PERSI and listed in Ulrichs. NEWSLETTER: As part of its service to members, MoSGA publishes a quarterly newsletter entitled Show Me State Genealogical News. This includes activities of national and local societies, meeting dates, conferences, family reunions, etc. PUBLICATIONS: MoSGA markets some of the county records compiled and published by Betty Harvey Williams and Jacqueline Hogan Williams. MoSGA has developed other publications, chief among which is the revised edition of Parkins Guide. QUERIES: MoSGA members may submit queries for publication in the Journal. These are published as space permits, but, during the past five years, almost all have been published in the issue following receipt. The Journal is placed in many major and minor libraries, thus offering extensive accessibility to other researchers. SPEAKERS: Board members are available to share their expertise by providing sessions at local workshops or presenting programs at monthly meetings of local societies. Board members assist in presenting mini-workshops. You are encouraged join MoSGA by sending annual dues of $15 to MoSGA Membership-J, PO Box 833, Columbia MO 65205-0833, together with your name, full postal address, phone number, and e-mail address. You will receive an introductory "New Member Packet." Bob Doerr in the beautiful Missouri Ozarks bdoerr@rollanet.org I hope this information helps. Thanks, Mike Michael G. Surnames: Enloe, Allen, Gregory, Cornell, Thompson, Niederwimer, Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XKB.2ACE/669 Message Board Post: Barbara Allen dies after lingering illness Mrs. Barbara Allen, wife of William H. Allen, passed away at the family home five and a half miles southeast of Calif- ornia, Friday morning (November 3, 1916) after a lingering illness of dropsy. For the fact that she had been an invalid for the past ten years the family had grown accustomed to her illness and her death came as a great shock to them. Thought Mrs. Allen was confined to her room entirely she was ever kind and cheerful to those with whom she came in contact and did not seem to feel that her burden was much harder than that of her friends who were favored with good health. Deceased was born in Moniteau County, near the German Salem Church, Nov. 25, 1852 and spent practically all her life in that and adjoining community. On January 7, 1875 she was united in marriage to William H. Allen to which union five children were born, all of whom, with her husband, survive. To be able to raise a family to manhood and woman- hood without the loss of one is a priviledge that is allowed but very few people. The children are Prof. W. E. Allen, of Russellville, T. E. and Dr. Harry, of Odessa, H. M. of California and Mrs. O. W. Niederwimer, three miles north of Corticelli. Besides her husband and children deceased is survived by the following brothers and sisters: James and Dr. I. N. Enloe, Jefferson City: Dr. John Enloe, Bay, Mo., Henry Enloe, state of California; T. M. and H. L. Enloe Russellville; Mrs. Wm. Gregory, southwest of Russellville; Mrs. George Cornell, Oregon and Mrs. A. J. Thompson of Washington. Deceased had been a member of the Friendship Baptist Church, south of California, since quite a young woman and before her illness was a devoted mem- ber. Funeral services were conducted at the family home Sunday morning by the Rev. R. L. Hood after which the remains were interred in the Enloe Cemetery west of Russellville, following a short service at the grave. The large crowd of friends and relativews which followed the remains to the last resting place testified to the high esteem in which the deceased was held. The Rustler extends sincere sympathy to the bereaved husband and children at this time.

I am trying to find any information about a Jemima Elizabeth Vaughan/n who married Dennis Hess on 2 Jan 1870 in Moniteau Co. Wilson Allee performed the ceremony. According to 2 census records, she was born in 1851. She died in Moniteau Co, the winter of 1885 of pneumonia. I do not have a record where she was buried.
