Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/XKB.2ACE/721.1.1 Message Board Post: Dear Jerrold Thank you for the Holt information. I have a copy of JT Johnson and Mary Jane Holt's marriage license dated 4 Dec 1865. They were married in Sherman, Grayson co, Tx by F. McNely. They moved back to Barry county Mo in 1866. They had several children including: James Abraham 13 Jan 1867, Mallie E 1870, Albert Jan 1877, Walter B. 25 April 1882, Grover Cleveland 29 June 1884, Lela Amelia Feb 1880 (Married Dr. William T Bailey, died 1912, due to breast cancer), Bertha, William, and Robert A.12 Jan1872-12 May 1914. They also "took in" Mary Jane's youngest nephew as an infant after his mother, Rebecca Adeline Boucher died in Dec 1890. His name was Robert Boucher. He was a pharmacist and never married. We believe he died in California, as did Walter and May. Some of this information we garnered from Mary Jane and JT's obituaries and some from an elderly granddaughter of theirs. We have been to the Oak Hill cemetery in Cassville, Mo where they are buried. Their son James was either the sherrif or the police chief there for many years and another son, Mal was also in law enforcement in the area. We know Walter married Nora May Hight and moved to the Long Beach, Calif area where they are both buried. Grover was last heard of in Dallas, Charles in Cornish, Colorado. James and Mal are buried around Cassville as are Bertha and Robert. JT Johnson entered the Confederacy in Sherman,Tx...reportedly in CoB, 22nd Texas Cavalry (aka as Steven's Regiment) Jan 1861. He was a harnessmaker. He participated in Prairie Grove, Ark, Mansfield,La and Fayetville,Ark. I'm sharing this with you in the event you wish to add the information to your site. Thanks again for your help. Carolyn

Mary Jane was born 8 Jan 1846 in California, Moniteau, Mo . She married John Thomas Johnson 4 Dec 1861 or 5 in Sherman, Grayson, Tx. They moved back to Barry Co, Mo in 1866. They had 11 children. Judge Holt's first name may have been James or George. I am uncertain as to wife's name..maybe Lucinda or Martha. We know Mary Jane had at least one sister, name unknown, who was married to a Boucher. Sister died in childbirth and Mary Jane and JT "adopted" her youngest child, a son named Robert in the late 1880s or 1890.

    3. Hi, Here are your Nelsons in the 1870 Moniteau Co, MO census. I had just missed seeing Marshall in an early reading. Apparently the father died between about 1866 and June 1870. 1870 US Census, Moniteau Co, MO, Moreau Twp 429A/160/170 Nelson, M J 46 f w keeping house 1,500 300 OH " Edson 18 m w farmer OH " Steven A D 12 m w Iowa (actually spelled Ioway) " William D 10 f w " (listed as female but obviously male) " Marshall 7 m w " " George B M 6 m w MO " Andrew J 3 m w MO I'll add them to my database so they will go online next week. 1. [MOMONITE] Baise/Sullivan Moniteau Co.
    2. My g-grandfather Humphrey Sullivan married my g-grandmother Sarah (Sally) Baise/Bays/Bais/Baize in Moniteau Co., 14 June 1875. The marriage abstract lists her as Sallie Bays. Her death certificate lists her as Sarah Baise and the death certificates of her children list her as Baize, Baise and unknown. I am trying to find out her her parents are. By 1880 she and Humphrey had moved south to Morgan Co, living around Versailles. Of course, no census for 1890 and 1900 has my grandmother Margaret listed as Maggie Sullivan 18, servant. No sign of Humphrey, Sallie or any of the other 5 children. Hanorah (Nora), Mary, John, Catherine and David. Census records list Sally parents as her father being born in KY and her mother being born in MO. On the 1870 census I have found a BB Bais born in KY with a wife to young to be Sallie's mother living in Moniteau Co., There is a Sallie age 18 which could be my Sallie. To further complicate things it is a family story that Sallie lied about her age and made herself older to receive Social Security earlier. Her tombstone and obit birthdate is 1850. Her age on the 1880 census is 28 which would be right for the Sallie on the 1870 census. Anyone else out there researching Baise or Sullivan? Humphrey Sullivan is buried in the Annunciation Cemetery in California MO. The dates on his Tombstone are 1844 to 1922. I sent for a copy of his death Certificate and his wife is Sallie but he is listed as a widow. and his parents are unknown. In 1922 Sallie is still alive and living in San Francisco with Catherine. Three of the six children are living in the San Francisco Bay Area and remain there until their death. Mary dies early after marrying and having a daughter that Catherine raises. Margaret married John Henry Hayes somewhere and moved to California in 1912. Catherine, and John are already there. David lived and died in St Joseph MO and Nora moved to Wyoming. This family line is my brick wall and is seriously need help sorting through the conflicting information. Any Ideas out there? Susan Young Medford OR

    3. Debra, Save your money on the 1870 census for MO. I have it on CD-ROM. My personal index for Moniteau Co does not include Marshall and my 1870 CD-ROM index for the entire state of Missouri does Not list a Marshall Nelson anywhere in the state. There are lots of Nelsons in Moniteau Co but none that appear to fit. I will work up a list of Nelson families and either post it here or send it privately. Perhaps you would have better luck checking the Iowa census. Regards, Jerry

My other source must be wrong. To find him with his parents (hopefully), I'm going to have to order the 1870 and hope they are in Moniteau County. Thank you ever so much for all your help!
