    3. My great grandfather was born in 1858. he states on his daughter's marriage application that he was born in Tipton, MO. His name was Charles B. GRAY. They say his real name was Mozarish/Mosarish (Dont Ask I have no idea) GRAY. His father was John and his mom Mary. He was supposed to have a baby sister named Helen. He left MO in about 1874 and went to Indiana in 1874-1880. He may have come back in 1892-93, where his son John Sherman was born. Then left and never returned. Supposedly his father was going to buy a farm for him and his family in about 1911. Anything you can find would be a great help. I have been looking since 1991 for him. 1. [MOMONITE] More Jobe obits from California Democrat
    2. Alan
    3. Hello everyone, Hope all had a fine week and for those in much of the U.S. haven't sweltered too much in the July heat and humidity. Here's a few more obits I got last weekend: My gr-gr grandfather: Thurs., May 24, 1945 California Democrat Rueben Jobe Dies Heart Attack Fatal to 80 Year Old Man, Survived by 16 Children Rueben Jobe, 80, died suddenly of a heart attack at his home here Friday, May 18. He had been in frail health for several months but was up and had planned to make a trip to the barber shop that day. He was the son of Abe and Susan Jobe who lived 2 miles north of California where their son was born June 19, 1864. He was one of a family of six. His entire life was spent in and around California. He followed the profession of a farmer until recent years when his health failed. He was married to Sallie Allee, February 17, 1885, who died January 11, 1904. He was again married October 15, 1915 to Miss Blanche Maupin who survives. He is also survived by six children by his first marriage, Edd and Lewis Jobe of California, Mo., Mrs Loy Edwards, Fortuna, Elmer Jobe of Indiana, Clay Jobe, Chicago and Mrs J O Beutler, California, Mo. and ten children by the second marriage, Mrs Sally Chouinard of Emporia, Kans., Chester, in the Army Air Corps at Scott Field, Ill., Leroy, with the Infantry in Holland, Herman, in the Merchant Marine, William with the Infantry in Patton's 3rd army and Eldora, Ruth, JoAnn, Dorothy and Eugene at home. There are also twelve grandchildren, three great grandchildren, three brothers, Jake Jobe, Jefferson City, Charley Jobe and Herman Jobe of Rocky Mount. Three daughters, Margaret, Martha and Susie, a brother, William Jobe and a sister, Mrs Cal Henry preceded him in death. The Rev. Roy E Martin, assisted by Dr Loren J Belt, officiated at Flag Spring Baptist church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Albert Gabert, Jake Weingartner, George Hess, Bill Dahler, Roscoe Bratten and Lewis Coale. Flowers were carried by Mrs J R Popejoy, Mrs Glen Jobe, Miss Beulah Beutler, Miss Hazel Dahler, Miss Grace Hall and Mrs H J Nach. Attending the rites from out-of-town were Mrs Elmer Helmer, Miss Beulah Beutler and Ivan and William Maupin of Kansas City; Herman Jobe, Curtis Hess, Mrs Lewis Wood, Mr and Mrs Charley Jobe, Rocky Mount; Golder Jobe, Mr and Mrs Clint Busick, and Everett Jobe of Miller County. Jake Jobe of Jefferson City, brother of the deceased, was unable to atten the rites on account of suffering a stroke of paralysis last week. Thurs., October 8, 1942 California Democrat Mrs. James Roberts Dies In Jefferson City Mrs James Roberts, 68, formerly of this community, died Wednesday in Jefferson City after an illness of almost six months following a stroke of paralysis. She had made her home at Russellville the past several years. She was an active member of Mt Olive Baptist church. Her husband survives. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, the Rev J S Laws of Clarksburg officiating. Burial will be at the Enloe cemetery. Thurs., November 20, 1941 California Democrat Mrs. Cal Henry Dies Funeral services at Baptist Church - Burial at Flag Spring Mrs Nancy Catherine Henry, 84, wife of Joseph Calvin Henry, died at the family home on West Street in California on Monday, November 10, 1941. She had been ill for some time. Mrs Henry, a daughter of Abraham and Susie Jobe, was born May 23, 1857, two and one-half miles north of California. She was married to Mr Henry on September 21, 1878. Eight children were born to this union, Joseph and J. P. of Kansas City, Kans., W. O. of Stillwater, Minn.; Mrs. Ralph Birdsong of Kansas City, Kans.; Mrs. Henry McDaniel, seven miles north of Kansas City, and Della who died in infancy, Myrtle who died at the age of 18 years and Lula who died April 19, 1941, at the age of 52 years. There are 17 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. Other survivors besides Mr. Henry include four brothers, Rube Jobe of California, Jacob Jobe of Jefferson City and Herman and Charley Jobe of near Eldon. Mrs. Henry was converted early in life and joined the Baptist church of which she remained a faithful, consistent member until her death. On September 21, 1928, the Henrys celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary at which time all their children and grandchildren, as well as many other relatives and friends were present. On this same occasion their youngest son, John Pat Henry, married Miss Lula Green of Kansas City, Kans. Ten years later they celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary. At the time of Mrs. Henry's death they had lived together a little more than 63 years, spending the entire time in or near California. Neither had been physically able to attend church services for several years, yet their interest never grew less because of their physical handicaps. Funeral services were held at the California Baptist church at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, November 12, the Rev. A B. Constantz, pastor, officiating. Music was by the church choir. Burial was in the Flag Spring cemetery. Mr. Henry has gone to Kansas City to live with Mr. and Mrs. Birdsong. Thurs., August 7, 1913 California Democrat Death of John M. Lawson John Miller Lawson died at the home of his son-in-law B. D. Wilson several miles northwest of California Sunday last. The funeral services were held at the Baptist church in this city Monday afternoon, Rev. T. R. White, assisted by Rev. L. B. Arvin officiating and the interment was by the side of his wife at the Masonic cemetery. Mr. Lawson was within a few days of 81 years of age, born in Stokes county, North Carolina, August 14, 1832. When about 7 years of age his father John Lawson, wife and two children came over-land to Missouri with a long train of emigrants from Stokes county, including the Redfords, Dearings, Wilsons, and others who located in what is now Linn township in this county, then Cole county. Stokes county is in western North Carolina and the emigrants came through east Tennessee, thence north through Kentucky to the Ohio river, crossing into Indiana through Indiana and Illinois to Missouri, crossing the Mississippi river at St. Louis. Mr. Lawson said he walked about the entire distance. When gold was discovered in California in '49, John Lawson in '53 drove an ox team across the plains and the great American desert to the land of gold, where he remained two or three years and often remarked to his friends that he had virtually walked from the Atlantic to the Pacific ocean. In D! ecember 1850 he married Hester Ann Jobe, daughter of John Logan Jobe, the Jobe family were from Tennessee and settled here as early as 1818, he was but 18 years old when he married, and in '53 when but 21 he bid his wife and baby good-bye and started on the perflous trip west. After his return he continued to live here, and was always an active energetic citizen. He was rather a remarkable man, having much energy and industry and always thrifty - he was of a genial, social nature and very generous, especially with his friends, to whom he was true and lasting, in fact he would go the full length to accomodate or protect a friend and had an abundance of shrewd native talent. Thurs., August 14, 1913 California Democrat John M. Lawson's Brothers In our sketch of John M. Lawson's death last week we failed to mention in connection with his children that he is also survived by four brothers - Alex and G ? Lawson of this county, Edward Lawson of the state of California and William D. (Bud) Lawson of Miller county. Bud Lawson, who is the father of the late Mrs Wm. Barnhill of this city, is 77 years of age, was in attendance at the funeral and is still a remarkably active man. Thurs., January 15, 1904 California Democrat Death of Sallie Ann Jobe Sallie Ann Jobe was born Oct. 29th, 1868; died Jan. 11, 1904; aged 35 years, 2 months and 13 days. Was married to Reuben Jobe, February 17, 1885, and they lived together 18 years, 10 months and 24 days. To this union six children were born, four boys and two girls, all of whom survive her. She was the daughter of J. L. and Polly A. Allee, who reside at Clarksburg. She has one brother and one sister living, W. Joe Allee and Nancy Chase, wife of C. M. Chase. All of whom with her husband, are left here below to mourn her loss. She was a true wife and a good mother. We loved her and greatly miss her, but we think she iw better off, for we believe she has gone to a better world than this: "Where pain and sickness can never enter." We hope some day to meet her again around the great white throne in glory. The burial took place Tuesday at Flag Spring cemetery, the funeral services being conducted by Rev. Dillard. Death of Mrs. Jobe Mrs. Sally Jobe, wife of Mr. Reuben Jobe, died at her home, a few miles northwest of this city, Sunday night, aged 35 years. The funeral was at Flag Spring cemetery Tuesday. Mrs. Jobe had been in rather delicate health for some time, was a good woman, and highly esteemed. She was a daughter of John L. Allee. Her husband and six young children survive her, four boys and two girls - the oldest about 18 years old. A great calamity has indeed befallen the family, yet such great troubles are continually passing around.

    3. Grandpa didn't show up on the 1870 census because the census was intended to show who lived there as of Dec 31, 1869. That is, also, why people who died in 1870, prior to the census, do show up on the census. Samuel Carroll Walker came to Hunt Co TX in 1860 then to Calhoon Co AK in 1870 where my grandfather, Pinkney Plunkett Walker, was born. Then they all moved to Jack Co. TX in 1880. I have found them on 1860,1870, and 1880 census rolls. Samuel Carroll died in 1893 in Parker Co. TX.
