The Iberia Sentinel, July 1934 Rhoda Ann Lee was born Feb. 26 1856, in the state of Tennessee. She came to Missouri with her parents when a child. She was married to Joel Atwell January 16, 1871. To this union en children were born, namely: Charley Atwell, Hancock, Mo.; Mrs. Charley Thomas, Iberia, Mo.; Mrs. D.M. Tyler, Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Clide Humphrey, Hancock, Mo.; Loren Atwell, Iberia, Mo.; Miss Mattie Atwell, Iberia, Mo.; Jennings Atwell, Hancock, Mo.; two children having passed away in infancy. She united with the Christian (New Light) Church several years ago and remained a faithful member till death. Born February 26, 1856, died July 6, 1934, being 78 years, 5 months and 8 days old. She was a loving mother, a devoted wife and a faithful friend. She leaves to mourn her passing eight children, thirty grandchildren, one sister, two half brothers and a host of friends. Her husband, Joel Atwell, preceded her in death two years ago last April 9th. Her favorite song, "I Must Tell Jesus All of My Troubles" she requested to be sung at her funeral, also "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" and "When the Saints Go Marching IN." Funeral services were conducted at the Atwell Church by W.M. Sooter, Jr. Scripture reading a part of 31st chapter Proverbs. Sister Atwell was a faithful Christian. She will be greatly missed in the home and community.
