    1. Re: [MOMILLER] Charles Edward Thomas - obituary
    2. I am only a curious observer here..no help, but I would guess that Cornelius and Neal could be the same person? Peg In a message dated 9/9/2008 2:18:53 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: I would be interested in the names of the 3 children born to Catherine Cansler and Marion Boone. I found a death certificate for Martha Ellen Boone Horn b. 1866 d 1932. She lists her father as Marion Boone and mother as Katheryn Cansler. So I would say Catherine was not married to William R. Thomas until after 1866. Since their first child, Mary Jane was born in June 1872, I would say William R. Thomas was married to Catherine Cansler sometime between 1868 and 1871. I have no information on three children, George Thomas b. 1860, Sarah A. Thomas b. 1861, Cornelius W. Thomas b. 1868, but they could not belong to Catherine Cansler since she was still married to Marion Francis Boone in 1866 (see Martha Ellen Boone Horn above). William R. Thomas married Lucinda Francis Keeth (her second marriage) 22 Nov 1896. Ambrose A. Thomas' obituary names a half brother, Neal Thomas, of Deepwater, MO. Charles Edward Thomas' obituary names two half brothers, Neal and George Thomas and a half sister, Nancy Ahart. Who are the parents of these siblings? Nancy T. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Paddy Buckley Sent: Tuesday, September 09, 2008 10:44 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MOMILLER] Charles Edward Thomas - obituary The informant on this death certificate was Mrs Jack Keeth, formerly Mary J Thomas born about 1872 to William R Thomas. Her brother Charles Edward was born three years later in 1875. If the mother of Charles Edward was claimed to be Katherine Chansellor then she was also the mother of Mary J and she ought to have known about her father's wife/wives. Going through the MOMILLER Archives I can see that Willard McDowell is of the same opinion. "William R Thomas was indeed married to Catherine Cansler Boone, (my gg grandma), I believe his first wife." Can we put a date for this first marriage? According to Willard, Catherine Cansler was born about 1839/1840, and that before she married William R Thomas she had earlier married Marion Francis Boone with whom she had three children. At the 1850 Census for District 13 Camden Co Mo; Harry Thomas, 17; William Thomas 15; George Thomas 12; John Thomas 10; Cornelius Thomas 3; Eliza Thomas 1; all b Mo and all enumerated with Samuel Brooks 67 b Va & Elizabeth Brooks 42 b Ohio. At 1860 Census for Osage, Camden Co Mo; William R Thomas, 23, Laborer, b Mo; Elizabeth, 19, b Mo; George W, 3/12, b Mo; John W Thomas, 20, Laborer, b Mo. At this census relationships were not stated, but because of the presence of a 3 months old child, we may presume that Elizabeth 19 b Mo was the wife of William R Thomas. Then William R got caught up in the Civil War. In the 1895 Veterans Schedule for Jasper, Camden Co Mo: Thomas, William R. Pvt B Coy Osage HG Jul 12, 1861 - Dec 20, 1861 service 5 mo 8 days. Leg mashed.; re-enlisted. Cpl 3 MO Cav; Oct 10, 1862 - Jun 14, 1865; Service 2y 9m 4d. At 1870 Census for Osage, Camden Co Mo: William Thomas 35 farm lab; George 10; Sarah A 8; Cornela 2. All b Mo. No sign of a wife, and the 3 months baby in 1860 is now George age 10. Cornela age 2 was enumerated as a female, but my hunch is that this was Cornelius. At 1880 census for Jackson, Camden Co Mo; W.R Thomas 49 b Mo ? ?; wife Elizabeth 48 b La (or Iowa) Tn Ny; son Cornelious 12; Mary J 8; Charles E 6; Ambers A 3. This Elizabeth was born in about 1832 and not in Missouri. The Elizabeth of 1860 was born about 1841 in Missouri. The MoMiller archives show that several others have puzzled over the wives of William R Thomas. I am a relative newcomer to the problem and should welcome any guidance in the matter.
