The Iberia Sentinel, January 1933 The community was sad to learn of the death of Joseph W. Koester, who died at his home three miles east of Union, MO., on Highway 50, Tuesday, Jan. 24, 1933, at 12:10 o'clock p.m. following an illness of over a year. Funeral services were held at the Immaculate Conception Church at Union and Interment made in the church cemetery. Mr. Koester was born in Miller County on September 4, 1869. In this county he spent the greater part of his life. He moved to Franklin County in 1923, after which he took up residence in the vicinity of Union, MO. He was married to Miss Sophia Wilson on February the 12th, 1900. To this union were born eight children, two of the sons having died in infancy. Those living to mourn his passing are George, Leo, James and Roy, and one daughter, Elane, all of Union, and Charles of St. Louis, Mo. There are six grandchildren. HE is also survived by two brothers and three sisters, namely: Mrs. C. Nixdorf of Chicago, Mrs. M. Connelly of Joplin, MO., J.S. Koester of Cape Girardeau, Mo., G.H. Koester of St. Louis, Mo., and Mrs. W.E. Martin of Eldon, Mo. Mr. Koester was an active member of the Missouri Knights of Columbus at Union, in which he had held various offices. He was an honorable resident of his community and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. Besides his immediate family and relatives, he leaves a host of friends in both Miller and Franklin counties.
