Unknown Publication, February 1970 Funeral services for Robert Butler Thompson of Iberia were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, just one week before his 101st birthday. Mr. Thompson, one of the county's oldest citizens, died Friday, Feb. 6, 1970 at Statewide Nursing Home in Jefferson City where he had been a patient since Oct. 6. He was born near Alder Springs in Miller County on Feb. 15, 18969, the son of Nathaniel and Narcissa (Record) Thompson. Most of his life was spent in the Iberia and Dixon areas. He was married to Miss Mary Ollie Shelton who died in 1894. On Dec. 5, 1895, he married Nellie Rebecca Rowland who preceded him in death on July 3, 1963. Mr. Thompson was a former school teacher and farmer. For many years he had served as deacon of the Alder Springs Church of Christ where he has been a member. A former member of the Modern Woodmen of America, Mr. Thompson has been very active in church and civic affairs until late fall. In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Mrs. Mae Wilson in February of 1952 and Mrs. Pansy Williamson in October of 1938; three sons, one in infancy, Truman on May 26, 1968 and Herman on Dec. 29, 1968. Those surviving in his family include two sons, Dewey and Wayne, both of Iberia; three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Newhart of Iberia, and Mrs. Opal McDaniel and Mrs. Ollie Stewart, both of Mission, Kan., 16 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Lottie Cross of Sedalia; and one brother, Barney Thompson of Dallas, Tex. The Rev. Aldon Veach and the Rev. Mark Sooter officiated at the Sunday afternoon services at Brays Advent Christian Church. Interment was in Union Cemetery under the direction of the Stevinson Funeral Home of Iberia. Pallbearers were Clarence Wilson, Bill Thompson, Charles Newhart, Archie Whitaker, Gene Stewart, and Myrl Wilson.
