Unknown Publication, October 1971 An Iberia man, Jasper Lee Moss, 43, died of a gunshot wound Friday night at his home southwest of Iberia near Eads Airport. A bullet struck him in the heart when a .22 bolt action rifle discharged, apparently during a family scuffle over the gun, the Miller County Sheriff's department, whose investigation is continuing, said. Mr. Moss died instantly about 8:30 p.m. Mr. Moss, who had lived in the Iberia area most of his life, was employed with the post maintenance department at Fort Leonard Wood. He was born Jan. 26, 1928 near Iberia, the son of James and Lillie (Russell) Moss. On Nov. 20, 1950 he was married in Bentonville, Ark. To Geneva Goodman who survives. Also surviving are four sons, Ricky, Roger, Dennis and Danny Moss, and one daughter, Lesa Lynn Moss, all of the home; four brothers, Walter and Willie of Iberia, Archie Moss of Dixon and James Moss of Los Angeles, Calif.; and five sisters, Mrs. Ina Rodden, Mrs. Dessie Ash and Mrs. Zella Rodden, all of Brumley, and Mrs. Geneva Humphrey and Mrs. Katherine Easter of Iberia. Mr. Moss was a member of the Alder Springs Church of Christ and of the Government Employees' Union at Fort Leonard Wood. HE was a World War II Army veteran and previously had worked for the Fort Leonard Wood Cab Co., General Motors in Kansas City, and in St. Louis construction work. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Iberia Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Gary Galley officiating. Burial was in the Billings Cemetery near Iberia under the direction of Stevinson Funeral Home of Iberia. Pallbearers were Charles Goodman, Ivan Goodman, Vernon Goodman, Fenton Humphrey, Kenneth Denton, and Reed Easter. Military services were conducted at the graveside by the Fort Leonard Wood mortuary team.
