    3. Julie Carr: Please continue to transcribe obituaries and make them available to those who need them; they are one of the richest sources of family information available and also one of the most accurate sources outside of actual public documents.  Nancy and the other Miller County folks are doing a tremendous service to researchers now and for years to come. I've been indexing the Belle Banner, Maries County Gazette and Unterrified Democrat (Osage County) since 1988, have transcribed most of them and have them in electronic format.  I also include birth announcements, wedding anniversaries and marriage license application listings that are published.  It also helps me keep up with the "home folks" and extended family even though I haven't lived in Maries County since 1956. I use a scanner and copy the scanned image to MicroSoft Word.  Its faster than straight transcription even though I have to clean up the formating, replace missing words, sometimes whole sentences or paragraphs and correct letters that the OCR converter doesn't identify correctly. The newspaper subscription costs about double what it does in the home county because the newspaper has to mail them out of state but I get usually get them on Saturday when they're published on Wednesday.  My indexes are at www.schwegler.us under the Gasconade Valley Cousins tab and electronic copies are available on request.  Hard copies are also in the Historical Society research rooms at Vienna and Linn, Missouri.  Those that I have in electronic format are also listed in the Rootsweb.com "Obituary Times" index.  William L. Just the few I've done from my mother-in-law's family I know how time consuming it it.   Thanks Again, Julie (Allen) Carr   P.S I have the Eldon Newspaper from Part of Dec 2007 - until present if anyone needs me to look something up let me know and I will. I'm not for sure if I will continue to get them now that I live in Tennessee, but I will help as much as I can.   --- On Wed, 10/14/09, Mary E. Stigler <mestigler@sbcglobal.net> wrote:
