Obituary, April 4, 1954: William Kallenbach, a life-long resident of the Saline Valley community, died Friday morning, April 4, at St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City. He had been critically ill for about three weeks, following a stroke. Mr. Kallenbach was born January 12, 1869 on the farm where he lived his entire life. He was the son of Valentine and Mary Magdeline Kallenbach who came to this country from Saxony Germany, and settled on the farm that became the Kallenbach homestead. In 1892 he was married to Cora Belle Thompson who preceded him in death by three and one-half years. They were both loyal and active members of the Saline Valley Church of Christ. Eleven children were born to this couple, all of whom are living: Mrs. Ethel Mauzy, who has lived at the family home and cared for her father during recent years; Val of Ulman; Mrs. Gola Curtiss, Sedalia; Mrs. Dean Gregory and Harry of Jefferson City; Mrs. Cora Wolverton of Kansas City; Ro9bert of Bolivar; Parnell of Mexico; Royal of Ulman; and twins, Mrs. Kathleen Blankenship of Burbank, and Forrest of Ontario, California. In addition to his children who survive him are two brothers, J.E. Kallenbach and Milton Kallenbach, of Jefferson City; 33 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren; and a foster daughter, Mrs. Vertie Stark of Eldon. The strength of character and Christian ideals that were so much a part of William Kallenbach have not been lost with his passing; as a father he has passed them on to become a part of the lives of his children and grandchildren to guide them as they take their place in life. Obituary, December 23, 1954: On Thursday evening, December 23, 1954, death softly and silently claimed one very dear to the hearts of all in this community. The deceased entered the Audrain County Hospital at Mexico, Mo., on Sunday, December 12 to be under the loving care of her son, Dr. Glenn Parnell Kallenbach. Although her condition from the first was critical, she was conscious and mentally alert to the end, and was able to partake of the comforting expressions of love from each of her eleven children and faithful husband who were with her during these last days. The patience and courage she displayed during this time will be a constant and continuing inspi8ration to each of them. Cora Belle Tompson, daughter of Elder Green Lee and Mrs. Elizabeth Sullins Tompson, was born September 25, 1876 at Spring Garden. The early years of her life were lived in the Ginger Ridge community. She was married to William Kallenbach of the Saline Valley community on September 24, 1892. They began their married life on the farm where he was born and reared, and on which they have continued to live, rear their family, and give richly of themselves to the community. She was a lifelong member of the Saline Valley Church of Christ. Her faith and devotion to God has revealed itself in the sincerity of the life she has lived. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two brothers, Daniel Tompson of Tuscumbia, and Lee Tomson of Eldon; eleven children; two foster children; thirty-two grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, three sisters, one brother and one infant child. Her children, five daughters and five sons are: Mrs. Ethel Mauzey, Tuscumbia, Mrs. Gola Curtis, Sedalia, Mrs. Dean Gregory, Jefferson City, Mrs. Cora Wolverton, Kansas City, Mrs. Kathyleen Blankenship, Burbank, California, F.V. Kallenbach, Ulman, Harry, Jefferson City, Robert, Bolivar, Dr. Glenn Parnell, Mexico, Royal, Ulman, Forest, Columbia; the foster children, Vertie Starks of Eldon, and Lee Kallenbach, state of Oregon. Although the vacancy left by her passing can never be filled, the beauty and gleam of her rich life and personality will forever glow in the hearts of those who knew her.
