The Iberia Sentinel, January 1936 Death again invades another Miller County home and claims one of our aged and most highly respected citizens, James L. Prock, who succumbed to pneumonia last Sunday. He had attained the age of 84 years. Mr. Prock has been one of the county's most active and influential citizens. HE has served the county as collector of the revenue and in other official capacities; was justice of the peace in his home township for a number of years, and was a leader in religious educational and social activities in his community. James L. Prock was born in Wright County, Missouri, August 14, 1851, and departed this life January 19, 1936. At the age of five years he came to Miller County with his parents where he resided until his death. Mr. Prock was united in marriage with Miss Nancy Wyrick who some years ago preceded him in death. To this union two children were born, Phillip Prock who died about fifteen years ago, and Mrs. Frank Johnston of Neosho, Mo. Mr. Prock was again united in marriage January 25, 1899, with Miss Lulu Short, and to this marriage relationship were born 8 children, namely: John, Sam, Elmer, Ted, Marie, Gladys, Chas. and an infant daughter. Elmer passed from this life in the year 1931 (Elmer's death certificate says 1930), Charles died at the age of eleven months and one daughter also died in infancy. A number of years ago Mr. Prock made a confession of his Christian faith and united with the Advent Union Church at Brays. He leaves, besides the members of his family, five grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. John Abbet of Iberia, a number of other relatives and a host of friends to mourn his departure. Funeral services conducted by Rev. P.J. Eckhoff of Iberia, were held from the Mt. Zion Church, near the County Home, Tuesday after which interment was made in the Iberia Cemetery, under direction of Adams & Casey, local undertakers.
