I need some help sorting this one out. According to this obituary, Mrs. George Winfrey's mother was Mrs. Walter Groce. However, the death certificate for Mrs. George Winfrey lists the deceased wife as Sarah Jane Hurt, daughter of Elzy and Elizabeth Jane Garman Hurt. Mrs. Wilfred Winfrey, also mentioned, is Ersa Ellen Groce, daughter of Walter P. and Bertha Thornsberry Groce. The Iberia Sentinel, April 1936 Mrs. George Winfrey, an aged lady of the community east of Brumley, died Thursday, April 23, after a long illness. Funeral services were held on Friday 24 and burial made in the Hawkins Cemetery under direction of Adams & Casey funeral services of Iberia. This makes the third death in this home during the past few months. On January 31, Mrs. Wilfred Winfrey died of pneumonia and on February 6th Mrs. Walter Groce, mother of Mrs. Winfrey also died of pneumonia which she contracted while waiting on her daughter.
