    3. The Iberia Sentinel, October 1933 Sophia Elizabeth Thompson was born August 30, 1868 at Brumley, Missouri. She died at St. John's Hospital at Springfield, Missouri at 1:00 a.m. Friday, October 20, 1933. She was the daughter of James and Victoria Thompson. The parents moved from Ohio to Missouri a short time before her birth. They settled at the present site of Brumley, establishing the first store at that place. She was married to Barney Reed on July 1, 1888. To this union were born two children: Mrs. Ralph Reed and Robert J. Reed, both of Eldon. There are three grandchildren: Ruth Reed and Leonard and Dorothy Reed, all of Eldon. She has two brothers and one sister. Her older brother, Clifford J., preceded her in death about a year ago at Los Angeles, California. Her other brother, Clyde S., lives at Brumley. Her sister, Cora Spearman, lives at Eldon. Her nieces and nephews are as follows: Norma Roberts of Steelville, Missouri; Neal Thompson of Seattle, Washington; Carroll Frye, of Calgary, Canada; Ardis Moore, of Oklahoma; Clay Thompson of Chicago; Sue Thompson, of Brumley; Ruth Hedge, of Hartville; James Spearman and Mrs. T.C. Wright, of Tuscumbia. She was converted and joined the Baptist Church at Ulman, Missouri on January 27, 1903. Her membership was transferred to the church at Linn Creek on June 7, 1923. She lived a devoted Christian life until the end. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Jesse O. Brown at her home in Camdenton, amid a large crowd of sorrowing relatives and friends. She was a member of the Eastern Star at Camdenton, Missouri, and many of her Eastern Star sisters were present to pay her homage. She was a past worthy matron of that Order. She will be missed in her home, in her church at Camdenton, and by her friends throughout Missouri. Funeral services were in charge of the Phillips Undertakers. Her remains were laid to rest in the Eldon Cemetery, Eldon, Missouri.
