The Iberia Sentinel, February 1936 The newspaper obit spells her name "Gross", the death certificate on line has it as "Grass", and cemetery listing is "Groce". Last Thursday, February 6th, death again invaded the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Winfrey of the Brumley community and claimed Mrs. Walter Gross, (Bertha Thornsberry) mother of Mrs. Wilfred Winfrey who died on Friday before January 31, of pneumonia. Mrs. Gross had gone to the home of her daughter to wait on her when she, herself, contracted pneumonia and was seriously ill at the time of Mrs. Winfrey's death. She is survived by her husband, three sons and three daughters, all of whom we understand, live elsewhere. Funeral services were held at the Brumley Baptist Church last Friday and were conducted by Rev. Virgil Smith of Brumley. Burial was made in the Hawkins Cemetery under direction of the Adams & Casey funeral service of Iberia.
