Obituary: The New Iberian, March 8, 1979 Hirsty Clergy McKee was born in Miller County near Iberia, Mo., July 2, 1895 and died March 5, 1979 at his home in Iberia after an extended illness, being at the time of his death 83 years of age. Mr. McKee was the son of William and Laura (Keith) McKee. He was the last survivor of a family of seven children. He grew up and spent most of his life in the Iberia area except for a few years spent in St. Louis. Mr. McKee served in the United States Army during World War I; he was wounded during the Argonne Drive in Euirope and received the Purple Heart as a result of the injury. On December 23, 1922, he was untied in marriage to Eunice Morrow. To this union was born one daughter, Lavada McKee Lewis, Iberia, Mo. Mr. McKee, with his family, lived for a few years in St. Louis where he operated a business. They then returned to the Iberia area. In 1932 he was elected assessor of Miller County and served a term of four years. He then entered the Postal Service as a rural mail carrier on Route 2 out of Iberia. His service in this capacity continued to August 1961, when he retired. Mr. McKee was a member of the Brays Advent Christian Church. He was a member and past commander of the Freemont Watkins American Legion Post number 105 of Iberia and received recognition as a 50 year member several years ago. He was a long time member of the Iberia Masonic Lodge number 410, AF and AM. Mr. McKee was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice, on June j10, 1977. His parents, four brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lavada and Drexel Lewis, and a number of nieces and nephews who will remember him with much love and affection. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 1979, at the Stevinson Chapel at Iberia with Rev. Everett Ransom officiating. Interment was in the Union Cemetery under the direction of the Stevinson Funeral Home of Iberia, Mo. Pallbearers were: Jennings McKee, I.D.
