    3. Obituary: The Eldon Advertiser, October 1987 Herman G. Denton, 87, of Rte. 4, Eldon died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1987 at Memorial Community Hospital in Jefferson City. He was born April 1, 1900 in Iberia to Wesley Theodore and Nancy Elizabeth Bond Denton. On July 27, 1921 he was married in Jefferson City to Bertha I. Richardson, who survives. Mr. Denton was retired equipment operator for the Miller County Highway Department. He retired in 1984 at age 84. He was employed by the department for a total of 35 years. He was also employed as a corrections officer with the Missouri Department of Corrections for 12 years. He also was employed with the City of Eldon for seven years as caretaker of the Rock Island Park. He also was a farmer and lived on his farm east of Eldon for 57 years. He was a member of the Tuscumbia Christian Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Denton of Kansas City, Alice Johnson of Lenexa, Kan., and Fern Mathews of Elsberry; four sisters, Mary Ray of St. James, Ida Belle Hale and Veta McKinsey of Farmington and Marsha Dake of Iberia; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home in Eldon with the Rev. Borys Boyuk officiating. Burial was in Greenmore Memorial Park near Barnett.
