The Iberia Sentinel, February 21, 1952 Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Ellen Helton, 71, who passed away unexpectedly at her home northeast of Iberia Wednesday, Feb. 13, were held Sunday, Feb. 17th at 2 p.m. at the Union Advent Christian Church. William Freeman Jones officiated. Interment was made in the Union Cemetery with funeral arrangements under direction of Hedges Funeral Home of Iberia. Martha Ellen Helton, daughter of M.A. and Mary Francis Humphrey, was born Dec. 15, 1889 in Howell County, Mo., and departed this life Feb. 13, 1952, at the age of 71 years, 1 month and 28 days. In the year 1898 she was united in marriage to Elbin Helton and to this union 9 children were born. One son, Chris passed away Aug. 1, 1947. Her husband preceded her in death August 11, 1947. Early in life she united with the Christian Newlight Church under the ministry of Rev. Chas. Sooter and remained loyal to her faith all of her life. Those who left to mourn her passing are: 3 sons, Bill and Otto of Hancock, Mo., and Roscoe of Dixon, Mo.; 5 daughters, Minnie Eiffert of Iberia, Lottie Fritchey of Seneca, Mo., Bertha Davenport, Pearl Clark and Mary Ponder all of Hancock; two sisters, Laura Blankenship and Doshia Messersmith of Dixon, Mo.; 17 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
