Thanks Nancy, I have looked in Union Co Illinois as that is where all the Carters were without any success. I can not believe that she would have left her mother and siblings unless she married and moved away. I can not find a marriage record for her. James W. Shelton's pension record was full of affadavits from family and neighbors but she was not among them. I have looked for Isabella Carter for almost 30 years now and have no clue as where to look next. The only time that I have ever found her was on the 1850 census in Miller or Camden census (don't have my notes with me). What I do know is: 1. She is the sister of: Robert Carter who married Milly Ann Shelton Hester Ann Carter who married James W. Shelton and later Robert Humphreys 2. She is the daughter of Nancy Jane Beggs & John Carter. Nancy later married James Hodge Steen. 3. She is living in the household of James and Nancy and family on the 1850 Census 4. She was born ca 1839 in Union Co Ill. Any clues anyone???
