Marion Miller has catalogued all cemeteries in Cole and some in Miller County. The Henley Cemetery is located near the Spring Valley Baptist Church about a mile or so north of Henley. I have a book called "Yesteryear and Today...Henley, Missouri" written by Anna Mae Whittle in 1989 and published in 1990......She has a paragraph on page 40 that reads... "The Henley Cemetery was laid out for slaves to be buried. It was laid off for that purpose in the early 1800s. They buried the slaves six feet deep, so others could be buried over them. Just how many slaves were buried is unknown, but as one grave was being dug, they dug into one slave's grave. The graveyard was deeded to the Spring Valley (Baptist) Church by John Henley. That is how Henley Cemetery got its name. He built the house below the cemetery, what we know as the Evert Martin house. John Henley is buried in Henley Cemetery." I think the church and cemetery is located on Hwy. H directly north of Henley.
