Obituary: The Miller County Sentinel, May 30, 1957 Lula McNeal Farmer died May 25 at the Latham Hospital in California, Mo., where she had been for five days following a stroke which she suffered at her home in Eldon. Mrs. Farmer had been in poor health for several years. She was born May 17, 1877 in Macon County, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Elias McNeal. On Dec. 5, 1903, she was married to John W. Farmer, who survives. They lived in Linn Creek, Mo., for many years, where Mrs. Farmer taught school and assisted her husband with their photograph shop. They moved to a farm in the Saline Creek community, near Tuscumbia, after selling their Linn Creek home when the lake that covered the town was first proposed. They lived in the Tuscumbia area until about one year ago, when they moved to Eldon. Mrs. Farmer was well known, having taught school in Camden and Miller counties for more than 40 years. She was among the first to benefit under the State Teacher's Retirement Plan. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Noyes of Cleveland, Ohio; a granddaughter, Mrs. Don Smith of Bedford, Ohio, and a great-granddaughter, Kim Smith, and a sister, Mrs. Alta Coleman of Birchtree, Mo. Funeral services are being held at 2:00 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Phillips Funeral Home, in Eldon, with the Rev. B.A. Meeks of Crocker and Tuscumbia, officiating. Burial will be in the Eldon Cemetery.
