    3. There is a note in our family history that says Rachel Salina Cox, who married James Harvey Vernon, was given a spinning wheel by John Scott as a wedding present. John Scott was a brother to the first wife of Rachel's father, John Sidney Cox. Martha Scott was married to John Sidney Cox and died around the age of 30. Afterward he married Sarah Esther Downing who was Rachel's mother. My parents have this spinning wheel still. My question is: Does anyone know any more about Martha and her brother John Scott? Martha d. 1865 in Quincy IL. I know nother else about the pair, other than John was in Miller County MO in 1885 for Rachel's wedding. Thanks, Charlene

    3. Would any of you be willing to do a look up for Cole County MO, the 1860 census? Martha Ann Scott or her brother John Scott. Martha wasn't married yet but would marry by the end of the year. I suspect they were both in the home of their parents but I don't know who they are - yet. Thanks, Charlene

    3. I couldn't find anyone named Martha Clark. The only Scotts I found who might be old enough to have children of marriageable age were Allen Scott, age 55, and his wife, Ann. I found no marriage for them in Cole County from 1821 to 1900 so they were probably married elsewhere. Living next door is Parthena Scott, age 50, head of household. I could find no marriage between Parthena and someone named Scott. Robert J. Scott age 52 and wife Synthia age 43 are living next door to the Thomas J. Scott shown at the bottom of this list. No children named John or Martha. 1860 census, Clark Twp., Cole Co. living next door to each other: John Scott, 26, b. MO Nancy 18 (John Scott m. Nancy Scrivner 28 Feb. 1856) Children Wm. 3 and James 1 Also living in the household 3 Scrivners: John 6, David 2, Charity 14 James Scott 36 Hannah 21 (James Scott m. Hannah Scrivner 23 Feb 1854) Child - Wm. J. 4 Also living in the household 3 Scrivners: James 10, George 7, Ann 15-listed as a domestic.
