Miller went to Lane Co. Oregon. My Anna (Miller) Maupin (sister of William, and daughter of Boyd Miller, Sr.) and husband, Thomas L. Maupin went on the Oregon Trail with many of their kids (my records show that she had 16 children, raised 12).. and families. Anna and Thomas(and a kid or two) stayed only a year, as they didn't like it there.. The others stayed... so the family became very divided in proximity of each other.. So here I see that her nephew Jacob went too. As I understand it, Anna and Thomas came back by way of boat.. There are several theories what happened to Thomas, but he died the day or so when he got back. One story says that he was defending his daughter from an "adventuresome" man who found the daughter delightful.. They got into a fight and he was killed. I am not sure anyone knows the true story. However I did find his estate settlement in the Gasconade Co. records. I also found Anna's obit. in a Gasconade Co. newspaper microfilm at the State Historical Society several years ago. I found a second one in the newspaper of the succeeding week of her death. She was praised as being a wonderful woman.. What a legacy! My grandfather Stites would have been a little boy when she died. So I've learned something new.. that a kinsman, a MILLER went on the OREGON TRAIL too.. Cheers, Ellie
