I'm checking the death certificate of Mildred James Wall, wife of Black Jim Wall, and noted her mother's name listed as Virginia Thompson. I had the name listed as Elizabeth Thompson. Is her name Virginia Elizabeth or Elizabeth Virginia? Nancy T

Jim K & Nancy There's me thinking my poor old eyesight is bad; perhaps the pair of you need a magnifying glass. Virginia is the state her father was born in; the line underneath is the maiden name of the mother -"Thompson", in fact Elizabeth Thompson born Aug 26 1805 in Virginia. Her father was Catlet James born May 3 1786 in Virginia. I don't know where the name Catlet came from; there were a few around in earlier census returns. Catlet James had a son Waddy Thompson James b Aug 12 1836; he became a colonel in the army.
