Obituary: The Eldon Advertiser, unknown date John Wright, honored and respected citizen of Eugene, passed away at his home Thursday morning at 10:00 o'clock of infirmities incident to old age. He was found lying on the floor, about an hour before he died, by William Spalding, a neighbor who had gone to his home to get an axe. Failing to get a response when he knocked on the door, Mr. Spalding looked inside the room and found him lying on the floor. He had a bruise on his face, and it is thought that he must have collapsed and fallen to the floor during the night preceding. Uncle John Wright was born near Tuscumbia on March 23rd, 1863, a son of James L. and Elizabeth Thompson Wright, and was 85 years, 10 months and 17 days old at the time of his death. He was united in marriage when a young man to Miss Lillie Ingram, who has been dead a number of years. They lived one half mile northwest of Tuscumbia for several years, then moved to the Dean's Creek neighborhood near Brumley, where they reared their family and where Mrs. Wright died. He had been living at Eugene about ten years. Mr. Wright was known throughout Miller and parts of Camden and Cole counties as an experienced painter and had perhaps done more house-painting than any other man in this county. He united with the Tuscumbia Christian Church years ago and later moved his membership to the Glover Chapel Church of Christ. He is survived by eight children and forty grandchildren. The children are: Garsy and James Wright of Eugene; Mrs. Carl (Annie) Willoughby and Mrs. Arlie (Nellie) Pemberton of Crescent; Mrs. Barney (Ruth) Wall of Iberia; Mrs. Walter (Goldie) Lucas of Webster Groves; Paul Wright of Crescent; and Mrs. Robert (Frances) Schwartz of St. Louis. He is also survived by one brother, G.L. Wright of Tuscumbia, who is now 86 years old. Funeral services were conducted at Glover Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Friday, by Rev. V.M. Smith of Brumley, and burial was in the church cemetery beside his wife.
