Obituary: The New Iberian, November 2, 1978 Byron Fancher, 63, of Iberia, died unexpectedly at his home Monday, October 23. A native of Iberia, Mr. Fancher was born September 21, 1915, a son of Everett and Anna Wilson Fancher. On December 23, 1939, at Tuscumbia, he was married to the former Miss Elvera Mae Tornquist, who survives. Mr. Fancher was a retired aircraft painter with a Wichita, Kansas firm, where he was employed for 20 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran with service during World War II. He was a member of the University Christian Church, Wichita. Other survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Donna Nielson, Norman, Okla. and Miss Byna Fancher, Wichita, Kans.; two sons, Spencer Fancher, Olathe, Kans. and Shawn Fancher of the home; five brothers, Charle Fancher and Jack Fancher, both of Iberia, Claude Fancher, Sacramento, Calif., Truman Fancher, St. Louis and Wayne Fancher, Memphis, Tennn.; two sisters, Mrs. Vivian Hammann, Yuma, Ariz. and Mrs. Lillian Tracy, Silverado, Calif.; and four grandchildren. The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 25, at the Stevinson Funeral Home, Iberia, with Brother Steve Shepherd officiating. Burial was in the Livingston Cemetery near Iberia where graveside services were conducted by the Iberia Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
