William Pierce was about 21 years old, the son of Richard Pierce and Parrie Poe and grandson of William Poe of Maries County, Missouri. Parrie and Richard married in Denver and lived in Pueblo but at this point in time were in Miller County. The story told by my mother and confirmed by a cousin just a few months ago is as follows: "Re: William Pierce, Loretta's brother. Yes, that's the story I was told by my parents. I called Hazel this morning. I am assuming that the Pierce family came to Eldon as my grandfather Chambers was a foreman for the Rock Island. Hazel recounted the story that William was getting two cars together and was caught as they came together. His father witnessed it. They moved back to Pueblo and Dick (the father) lost his mind and was institutionalized for the rest of his life. This was, in my thinking, between 1910 and 1912. Hazel was born in 1912 and she said it was before she was born." Any record, information or suggestions regarding sources to search are appreciated.
