Jefferson City News Tribune, Sunday, March 4, 2007 Martha Catherine Berendzen, 93, of Mary's Home, died Friday, March 2, 2007, in Jefferson City. She was born June 10, 1913, in St. Elizabeth, a daughter of Joseph and Anna Dickneite Bax. Martha was married November 17, 1937, in St. Elizabeth, to Clem J. Berendzen, who preceded her in death on June 19, 1993. A homemaker, she helped operate Clem's Store in Mary's Home from 1959 to 1976. She was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, Mary's Home Ladies Sodality, Legion of Mary, and the Mary's Home Senior Citizen Club. She was a devoted mother of ten children and found joy and comfort in being with her family. Survivors include: three sons, James Berendzen and wife Ann, Centertown, Tom Berendzen and wife Maria of Clearwater, Fla., and Dan Berendzen and wife Carol of Wardsville; six daughters, Delores Schulte and husband, Mel, of Jefferson City, Dottie Kempker and husband Ed of Jefferson City, Darlene Wallis and husband Ron of Eugene, Rosanna Weidinger and husband Bill of Eldon, Marsha Hayes and husband Denny of Jefferson City and Mary Jo Fox and husband Ron of Henley; one daughter-in-law, Betty Berendzen of Holts Summit; one brother, Anton Bax of St. Elizabeth; 27 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. One son, William Berendzen, preceded her in death. Visitation will be held at the Phillips Funeral Home in Mary's Home on Sunday, March 4, from 3-8 p.m. The Rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m. and prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 5, at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church at 11 a.m. with Rev. Clarence Weiderholt officiating. Burial will be in Our Lady of the Snows Church Cemetery, Mary's Home. Memorials are suggested to Our Lady of the Snows Church or Mary's Home Senior Villa.
