Obituary: The Eldon Advertiser, February 1967 Funeral services were held Feb. 26 for Dr. Arthur Francis Humphreys, 51, Kirksville, who died Feb. 22, in a Columbia hospital following an illness of several months. A son of M.E. and Euna (Reger) Humphreys, he was born at Galt on June 5, 1915. Dr. Humphreys was never married. A graduate of Galt High School, Dr. Humphreys received his A.B. degree from Culver-Stockton College in 1941. He received his master's degree in 1942 and his doctor's degree in 1957 from Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn. Prior to World War II, Dr. Humphreys was a music teacher in the Grundy County public schools and later became county supervisor of music in Lincoln County. During the war, he served with the War Department in special service assignments at Wright Field, Dayton, Ohio. Following the war, he became professor of music at Tarkio College, where he served until 1963, when he received an appointment to the faculty of State University College at Potsdam, N.Y. In 1965, Dr. Humphreys returned to Missouri as professor of music and head of the department of music education at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College, Kirksville. He was a member of the Galt Methodist Church. The Rev. Dr. Dale Jorgenson officiated at the funeral services at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, at the Galt church. Burial was in the Galt Cemetery.
