Obituary: The Eldon Advertiser, December 1987 Hannis Melton Swanson, 87, of Manchester died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1987 at the Lutheran Medical Center South in St. Louis. He was born June 10, 1900 in Tuscumbia to George P. and Martha Ann Melton Swanson. On Aug 5, 1923 he was married in Eldon to Ella Mae Fendorf, who survives in St. Louis. Mr. Swanson lived in Jefferson City from 1924 until 1936, when he returned to Tuscumbia. He moved to St. Louis in 1984. He was employed at the Missouri Secretary of State and Missouri Treasurer's offices for 12 years. Later he was with Tompkins Chevrolet in Eldon for several years prior to his retirement. He was a member of Modern Woodmen and the Tuscumbia Christian Church. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Ronald Swanson of Manchester and Maurice Swanson of Marietta, Ga.; two sisters, Clarice Shaw of Mission Hills, Kan., and Eliza Artz of Eldon; a brother, O.B. Swanson of Ft. Worth, Tex.; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Edwards officiating. Burial was in the Tuscumbia Cemetery.
