    3. Thanks for this clarification. He was my great-grandfather. I had never checked the passenger lists and a cousin was under the impression that the youngest daughter may have been born in this country. This information shows she was not. There has also been some speculation that Squire John may have fibbed about his age in order to obtain employment after arriving here since support of the family would have fallen to him after his father died at sea. Squire John has had lots written about him--he was a shameless self-promoter as well as a significant mover and shaker in Miller County up to and following the Civil War.
