They may have been in transit at that time. They left Liverpool in Sept on the Colonel Cutts and arrived in New Orleans on Dec 3 1855. The family consisted of William 40 farmer; Isabella 32 housekeeper; John 15 labourer; Elizabeth 12 and Martha 3. Place of origin was Great Britain. The 1841 census for Scotland shows William Ferguson 25 cotton handloom weaver; Isabella 22; John 5 months living at Warren Hill, Torthorwald, Dumfries. I haven't been able to find them at 1851 census in Scotland or England. William John Ferguson and his wife Isabelle Chisolm Hunter Ferguson sailed out of Liverpool England on the Colonel Cutts, departing September 1852. I'm trying to determine which of their three children were with them and any additional information that might have been available about the family on that trip. Their children were John Hunter Ferguson b. 1838, Elizabeth b. 1843 and Mary (Martha) b. 1848.
