Jim I had already seen the accepted story on RootsWeb World Connect that John Hunter Ferguson's father had died at sea "in 1859" on the voyage to USA, but the evidence from the Colonel Cutts passenger list of 1855 shows that William landed in New Orleans. I am aware of the marriage between John Hunter Ferguson and Dorcas Cansada Shelton on Jun 4 1862 in Miller Co and I'm sure that you will have all the Shelton links, and perhaps the stories handed down.
