Obituary: The Eldon Advertiser, Thursday, December 26, 1918 Elmer C. Vaughan, a son of Albert and Minnie Vaughan was born April 8, 1895 and died somewhere in France, Nov. 16, 1918 of bronchial pneumonia, age 23 years, 7 months, 8 days. Clinton (the name by which we knew him) was converted and united with the Mart Carmel Baptist Church Dec. 24 1911 and immediately began to take part in public worship. For the past 3 years he had been superintendent of the Sunday school. He was greatly devoted to his church and S.S. never missing a service unless caused by sickness. May 26, 1918, he entrained at Eldon for Camp Dodge, Iowa where he spent only a short while before being taken to France. In all his letters back home he always remembered his church and Sunday school. In his last testimony at church he said though he had to give up his life on the battlefield he did not dread death. He was liked by all who knew him. There is a vacant place in the home that can never be filled. We extend to the parents our deep sympathy for we know what a noble son they have lost. He leaves a father, mother, two brothers and one sister and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his death. While we mourn noot as one that have no hope for our loss is Heaven's gain. We can say as did David, He can not come to us but we can go to Him for we believe that he is in Heaven wearing palms of victory and drinking of the everlasting joys of bliss. Clinton will be missed in the home. We will miss him in church in Sunday school and community. And the nation has lost another brave hero who gave his life for liberty and freedom of his country.
