Unknown Publication, March 1970 Leonard Monroe Woody, 65, of Iberia, died suddenly Thursday, March 19, 1970, at the home of his son in Independence. He and his wife had gone there on a visit on Wednesday. A native of the Iberia area, Mr. Woody was born Oct. 30, 1904, the son of David and Josephine (Whitaker) Woody. On Oct. 28, 1925, he was married to the former Miss Stella Martin, who died Jan. 24, 1958. On Nov. 4, 1965, he married Mrs. Ruby Shelton Humphrey, who survives. A retired electrician, Mr. Woody was employed in Kansas City before his retirement in 1967. He was a member and past elder in the Brays Advent Christian Church where he also served as an assistant Sunday school superintendent. He was also a member of the Iberia Lions Club and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Mr. Woody was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois Deane, on Oct. 16, 1926. Other survivors include one son, Wayne Woody, Independence; two brothers, Bill Woody, Iberia, and Sherman Woody, Kansas City; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Bass, Kansas City, Kan., Miss Virgie Woody, Wichita, Kan., and Mrs. Alma Humphrey, St. Louis, and two grandsons. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Brays Advent Christian Church with the Rev. Aldon Veach and the Rev. Miles Bowden officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Stevinson Funeral Home, Iberia. Active pallbearers were Gary Woody, Norman DeVore, Larry Shelton, Bill Prather, James Parker, Robert Parker, and Ellis Martin. Honorary pallbearers were Hezzie Hinson, Ikie Smith, Henry Leftman, Raymond Gardner, Maurice Mace, Jennings McKee, Ernie Humphrey and Wayne Thompson.
Unknown Publication, June 1970 Fred Leroy Helton, 81, Iberia, died Sunday, June 7, 1970, at the Pulaski County Memorial Hospital in Waynesville. Mr. Helton, a farmer, had lived on the same farm in the Brays community near Iberia for 75 years. He was born July 3, 1888, in Maries County near Dixon, the son of Isaac and Mary (Pankey) Helton. On Oct. 11, 1906, he was married to Mary Francis Fritchey who survives. He had moved to the Iberia area at the age of 6 years, and remained on the same farm for the remainder of his life. Mr. Helton became a member of the Church of Christ in 1932, and was baptized by Bro. W. F. Jones. Surviving in addition to his wife are four sons, Clyde and Everett Helton of Iberia, Guy Helton of Crocker, and Wroe Helton of Waynesville; one daughter, Mrs. Zella Humphrey of Iberia; one brother, Charles C. Helton of Lonedell; 19 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Helton were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Mt. Gilead Union Church near Iberia with the Rev. Earl Jones officiating. Burial was in the Pankey Cemetery near Iberia under the direction of Stevinson Funeral Home of Iberia. Pallbearers were Don Whittle, Virgil and Carl Helton, Gene Fritchey, Charles Pendleton and Vasca Humphrey.
Unknown Publication, March 1970 Mrs. Annie Lee Doubikin, 87, of Smithton, formerly of Iberia passed away Monday, March 23, 1970, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lillie Hammons of Smithton. She was born in Miller County, the daughter of the late John and Lucinda Shockley. She was married May 18, 1902 to the late Walter Doubikin and spent most of her life in the St. Anthony Community. Mrs. Doubikin was a charter member of the Fairview Christian Church near Iberia, and was a charter member of the Iberia WPFA. She is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Lillie Hammons of Smithton, Mrs. Bertha Harris of St. Elizabeth and Mrs. Dorothy Findley of Wichita, Kan.; one grandson, John D. Hammons of Sedalia, and one great-grandson, John D. Hammons, Jr. Mrs. Doubikin was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Doubikin; a son, Lonnie Doubikin, and an infant son, Walter John; ; two sisters, Mrs. Maude Marshall and Mrs. Alice Adams; three brothers, Edward Shockley, Pearl Shockley and Joe Shockley. Funeral services were held at the Fairview Christian Church near Iberia at 2 p.m. Wednesday with Mark Sooter officiating. Interment was in the Livingston Cemetery under the direction of Stevinson Funeral Home of Iberia. Pallbearers were Claudius Shockley, Jimmie Schulte, Ray Ahart, Henry Heckemeyer, George Otto and Robert Livingston.
Unknown Publication, September 1972 Mrs. Flossie Cleasby Newhart, 76, of Iberia, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 1972, at her home. Mrs. Newhart was born Aug. 30, 1896 in Miller County near Brays the daughter of William and Fannie (Grady) Humphrey. She was married Nov. 6, 1913, at Brays Advent Christian Church by the Rev. George De Beet, to Mont Newhart, who survives. Mrs. Newhart lived in and around Iberia all of her life. She worked for a short time in the Service Club in Fort Leonard Wood and was a telephone operator around 14 years until her retirement in 1960. Mrs. Newhart had been a member of the Brays Advent Christian Church since age 12, also of the Brays Helpers Union Club and the Iberia WPFA. Surviving, other than her husband, Mont, are: two sons, Minor Newhart of Iberia and Irland Newhart of Springfield; one daughter, Mrs. Helen Buenger of Granite City, Ill.; one sister, Mrs. Susie Groves of Iberia; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held at __ p.m. Monday at the Stevinson Chapel in Iberia with the Rev. Aldon Veach and the Rev. Gary Gulley officiating. Interment was in the Union Cemetery. Pallbearers were Siegal Humphrey, Tommy Humphrey, Paul Healy, Byron Humphrey, Lloyd Humphrey and Harry Atwell.
Unknown Publication, August 1968 One of the area's senior citizens, Mrs. Clara Ann Woody, 96, died Wednesday night, Aug 21, 1968, at the Miller County Nursing Home near Tuscumbia. She was born Dec. 25, 1871, near Camp Ground in Maries County, the daughter of Pope and Polly Ann (Shelton) Hale. On May 19, 1891, she was married in Maries County to Robert F. (Bob) Woody who preceded her in death. Mrs. Woody was baptized at Camp Ground Church under the Rev. Charley Sooter. She had been attending the Congregational Christian Church until ill health restricted her activities. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Ida Carroll of Snohomish, Wash., Mrs. Mae Livingston of Twin Falls, Idaho, Mrs. Lottie Hensley of Iberia, and Mrs. Myrtle Loftin of St. Louis; two sons, Louis Woody of St. Louis and Dolen Woody of Belle; and 25 grandchildren as well as great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Stevinson Chapel in Iberia with the Rev. Earl Brown officiating. Burial was in the Union Cemetery near Iberia. Pallbearers were Wendell Hensley, Dallas Hensley, Junior Hensley, Allen Wilkis, Jim Duncan, and Jim Strickland.

Unknown Publication, October 1971 An Iberia man, Jasper Lee Moss, 43, died of a gunshot wound Friday night at his home southwest of Iberia near Eads Airport. A bullet struck him in the heart when a .22 bolt action rifle discharged, apparently during a family scuffle over the gun, the Miller County Sheriff's department, whose investigation is continuing, said. Mr. Moss died instantly about 8:30 p.m. Mr. Moss, who had lived in the Iberia area most of his life, was employed with the post maintenance department at Fort Leonard Wood. He was born Jan. 26, 1928 near Iberia, the son of James and Lillie (Russell) Moss. On Nov. 20, 1950 he was married in Bentonville, Ark. To Geneva Goodman who survives. Also surviving are four sons, Ricky, Roger, Dennis and Danny Moss, and one daughter, Lesa Lynn Moss, all of the home; four brothers, Walter and Willie of Iberia, Archie Moss of Dixon and James Moss of Los Angeles, Calif.; and five sisters, Mrs. Ina Rodden, Mrs. Dessie Ash and Mrs. Zella Rodden, all of Brumley, and Mrs. Geneva Humphrey and Mrs. Katherine Easter of Iberia. Mr. Moss was a member of the Alder Springs Church of Christ and of the Government Employees' Union at Fort Leonard Wood. HE was a World War II Army veteran and previously had worked for the Fort Leonard Wood Cab Co., General Motors in Kansas City, and in St. Louis construction work. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Iberia Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Gary Galley officiating. Burial was in the Billings Cemetery near Iberia under the direction of Stevinson Funeral Home of Iberia. Pallbearers were Charles Goodman, Ivan Goodman, Vernon Goodman, Fenton Humphrey, Kenneth Denton, and Reed Easter. Military services were conducted at the graveside by the Fort Leonard Wood mortuary team.

Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Hazel Hale of Crocker, Mrs. Evelyn Cooley of Salem and Mrs. Vernetta Burks of Blue Springs; three brothers, Jennings Ponder of Crocker, Leslie Ponder of Winslow, Ariz. And Kenneth Ponder of Bloomington, Ill; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Stevinson Funeral Home in Iberia with Woody Wilkinson the officiating minister. Interment was in the Iberia Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gary Burks, Douglas Burks, Denny Fulkerson, Jewel Ponder, Tom Novak and Jack Spearman.
